I personally use 1/4" crown staples, 1.5" long, every 6" or so. I also use TiteBond Ultimate glue...the one with the green label for wood on the face of the joints. You absolutely need to have really good cuts and great angle cuts in order for this to work properly.

The staples are just to hold the box in place while the glue dries. The staples have an adhesive on the tips that is activated when you shoot the staple through the MDF. Once the wood glue dries, it becomes part of the box.

I remember when I used to build boxes back in the day putting in a bunch of 1.5" drywall screws.... What a waste of time putting all those screws in.

Now, the only time I use screws to build a box is when I'm building a box for a heavy subwoofer or using a double face to mount the subwoofer.

^You aren't running a DD9512 on 2900 watts either. I'm sorry if I'd prefer to be safe by having that extra hold there. But when I hit 149.7 on the TL a few months ago, I realized that I'm extremely scared of what COULD happen to that box if it wasn't held together correctly. I'd really hate to see shrapnel fly off the box and straight into my face.

I haven't ran a DD9512, but I have ran Atomic, MMATS Juggernauts, and other heavy subs. For heavy subs, I pre-drill, countersink, fill the hole with glue, use 1.5" drywall screws, and brace the hell out of the box.

I don't fill the holes with glue, but I do resin the insides of all my boxes in the corners, brace them, and use 1.5" drywall screws. Normally for heavy subs such as the MMATS and DD9512 I double baffle also.
