Another 02 2500HD ext box built ( ported 10 )
Well my box is finaly dry at the last joint so I figured I would jump on here and show you my single 10 ported box. I had a Prefab box that I used as a guide and I basicly extended it out and made a touch wider. Its not all that pretty right this second and tomorrow my 3" flared port and terminal should be here from partsexpress.
The final specs ended up being External: 22L1 x 20L2 x 20w x 9.25d1 x 6.75d2 useing 3/4MDF. Internal is :19.25 x 18.5 x 7.5 x 5.25 = 1.31383 + 1.25 x 7.5 x 18.5(little pie shaped piece)=.05018 Total cuft: 1.36cuft before displacement AA Arsenal 10 displacement: .12 Port displacement : .045 Arseanal 10 recomended ported box = 1.2 cuft after all displacement tuned to 35hz. Final cuft after displacement on my box 1.195cuft. Well enoough of the tech crap, here a picture of the box with the Arsenal set in for the pictures. The big hole on the side is the cut out for the 3inch flared port. Yes the hole is huge but this is to accomadate the flare at the end. The smaller hole is of course for the terminal. ![]() So how did I do for my first box build ?

Re: Another 02 2500HD ext box built ( ported 10 )
Looks nice, what did you use to seal it? Make sure you seal those terminals. What exactly is a flared port? If its flared wouldnt it cause a chuff?

Re: Another 02 2500HD ext box built ( ported 10 )
Undisputed,
The flare actually reduces the port noise by far. Flared ports normally increase SQ and SPL over standard round ports. Here's a picture. ![]() EDIT: Whoops, sorry, forgot to comment on the box. It looks great. If I were you I'd carpet it to match the interior and call it good. DONT forget to seal around the terminal and port ;) Last edited by pl4yboy : 05-06-2008 at 03:40 PM. |

I have'nt decided which way I want to go yet as far as covering goes. I keep going back and forth between carpet and the DIY bedliner. Heres the specs on the system: HU:Kenwood 4028 (x891 on the way and will be here Thursday) Front stage: Polk DB6500 comp's F/R-fill.stage Amp: Power Acoustik LT960/4 Rear fill: Blaukpunkt(sp) 6x9 in boxes Sub: AA 10" Arsenal Sub Amp: Power Acoustik A1000DB mono Its not the most expensive system out there but it is very loud even with the 10 sealed. Not much on output outside of the vehicle when the windows are all rolled up which is nice.

As for the sealant, I used liquid nail and a brad nail gun with clamps. I also ran a bead along all the nooks and cranny's with the liquid nail and smoothed it out the best I could with my finger. I did this on the outside as well to help make sure no air leaks were going to be present. All of the cutout holes are a touch undercut as well so I can make the final adjustmants with sandpaper to insure a nice tight fit. Here is the port kit that I ordered from partsexpress: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...68-350&ctab=15 Also the terminal: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=260-311 Also the flared port (aka Aeroport), was the best for my application. I could use the 3" port to get my tuning and the flares help with the noise. I guess by Friday I should know if the box is going to hit or be a total failure. My new HU should be here Thursday and I figure get every thing for the box installed tomorrow and get it all sealed up nice and let'er sit a few days to make sure the liquid nails drys real good.

A few of the in-cab pictures:
The passanger seat loses just a touch for moving back but its not much at all(1 inch tops). You really can't tell in the pictures but I also rounded off the sharp edges that will come in contact with the seat. ![]() Showing where the port will be facing: ![]()

Hunter I heard on the inside corners place duct tape on them so they can be round and not flat corners and it will sound better.

Ditch those blau 6X9s they are going to ruin what looks to be a good build.

Re: Another 02 2500HD ext box built ( ported 10 )
The 6x9's are hooked up in there own boxes with long enough wires to drag out and put on the tool box. I do alot of camping and this really helps with having some tunes.
In normal day to day driving the rear is faded out into a whisper and just used for rear fill. The fronts do all the work.

Wow, losing all that leg room? Oh well. Looks like a clean install. I'd go with carpet because the DIY bed liner is garbage IMO.

Re: Another 02 2500HD ext box built ( ported 10 )
Yeah I am leaning towards the carpet as well, and as far as leg room goes in the back......no one rides back there anyways. I think since I have owned the truck I only had one person ride back there.

Re: Another 02 2500HD ext box built ( ported 10 )
if you havent bought the terminal yet i would think about these binding posts. little silicone and you wont be leaking any air.

Re: Another 02 2500HD ext box built ( ported 10 )
Yeah...I did'nt even think about the binding posts when I was ordering from partsexpress and I got the terminal cup. As you can tell in my first picture in my original post the hole is already cut for the terminal as well. I did undercut cut the hole's so I can fine tune the fit with sandpaper so hopefully I wont get any airleaks.
I got the port and terminal yesterday so here in a bit I am going to go down stairs and get everything installed. I will say that the port flares are friggen huge! My new HU should be here today as well, today is going to be a good day.

Re: Another 02 2500HD ext box built ( ported 10 )
Well the box is in, no air leaks from what I can tell and it definitly has more output then the sealed box. Acuracy is still pretty damn good considering its ported. Over all I am very happy with the outcome. Best part is, out side the cab you still dont hear to much..but on the inside ****s bouncing around all over the place.
Here is a quick pix before it went in: ![]()

Only one problem with your build.... You used nails. =) Pre-drill screws and use them every 4 inches instead next time.

However, I too just looked at the pics and if that is particle board which it surely looks like you need to build yourself another box. ![]()
