Subs in 05 CC Sierra
Alright,
I want to get a bit of extra thump in my truck. I have an 05 Sierra Z71, with the BOSE system in it, and need some direction. I don't need the latest, greatest, biggest, loudest stereo to compete with the fast and the furious, but just a bit of extra thump. I am thinking the bset place to do this is to put sub(s) under the back seat as it has the most room, and an amp behind the seat. Maybe a single or dual 10"? Do I have to add any additional speakers anywhere else in the truck? Any recommendeations on amps/subs/enclosures? |

Re: Subs in 05 CC Sierra
budget? music you listen to? fab skills? factory head unit?
best bet is single 10", possibly ported, because there is very little room under the seat.

Re: Subs in 05 CC Sierra
I listen to a good mix of everything, except talk, it'll be with the factory head unit, and hoping to do everything for under $300...tight budget, but I think its doable.
The truck already has teh BOSE system, so there is a SUB in the centre console already, but just a little more bass would be nice... I was half considering the TUBE type of SUBS, but not sure about them... Will I have to do anything to the other speakers in the truck? |

Re: Subs in 05 CC Sierra
dont do tubes if you can avoid them. you will be very disappointed. 300 is pretty tight. any problem using used equipment or refurbished?
you dont have to do anything to your stock speakers but you would be happier with after market speakers. i think you are focused on the wrong part of your system right now, if i were you i would do an amp and components before more subs. but its about what you want not me.

Re: Subs in 05 CC Sierra
I have a subthump box under my cc seat with two 10" kicker subs and it sounds good. you can get a pac adapter to add the amp to your bose system.

Re: Subs in 05 CC Sierra
Auburntruck's idea of used/refurbished equipment is a good one for the amplifier you'll need, and might help you get to where you want close to your desired budget. I wouldn't get a used sub though, they're too easy to abuse if the person before you put it in the wrong enclosure or overdrove it with a cheap amp.
Decent mid grade subs come in below $200, your best bet is a single sealed 10" due to the limited space under the crew cab seat. If you have a sub in the center console that is marginal, you'll definitely want to disconnect or remove it when you put in the newe one.
Just because a manufacturer says you can doesn't mean you should!

Re: Subs in 05 CC Sierra
I have a single 10" Kicker in an under seat downfire box pushed by a bridged Fosgate 2 channel amp and it sounds really good. Even though I cheated (or cheaped out when it came to the kit) and tapped into the rear speaker wire instead of using the adapter kit.
I spent so much on 4 gauge wire and fuses and connectors and then cheaped out, but the sound is still good so I never had to change it out.

Re: Subs in 05 CC Sierra
This is how i did it in my CrewCab, a subbox behind the seat and the amp underneat the bench in the middle. It will be quiet the job to make a box for underneath the bench, but it's doable i guess. Whatever you feel like is best. I got 2 flat kicker subs coming next week, already got the box made up and amp in place. Might not be under $300, but that is a real tight budget.

Re: Subs in 05 CC Sierra
If you could spend about $380, you could have an either an Audioque SD2.5 10 or an RE SE10, with a Hifonics TXi 1008D (~575 Real RMS). You can build a box yourself for under $30 (one sheet MDF, glue, screws). Thats a damn good $380 system.

Re: Subs in 05 CC Sierra
Thanks Guys!
RonDog, nice setup...what size tires do you have on the DC 1 rims? Did you put a levelling kit in it, or a lift? I think I'm gonna wait a month or so, and bump up my budget a bit to do it right!!! |
