Re: sound deadening complete
did you clean the surfaces and put the mat down with some heat? if not WI winters are going to play hell on the Dynamat.

He put down dynamat extreme. there is no need for heat when you put down a butyl based deadener.

Re: sound deadening complete
in Georgia, probably not. but in the cold north its good insurance.
clean and de-greased/oiled is the most important thing.

Re: sound deadening complete
butyl doesnt have the same properties as asphalt. what would be the advantage of heating up butyl?
Asphalt- heat is required (pretty much). Butyl- total waste of time.

Re: sound deadening complete
a little heat helps get it stretched into close quarters and helps get a 100% seal along edges...sure, its not NECESSARY. its not a waste of time, it actually speeds up a proper job. plus, in a high yeild shop in december in ohio, it does become necessary.

Re: sound deadening complete
I agree with you IF the deadener is asphalt. but butyl is no where near as sensitive to temperature as asphalt. plus cold is not the force that will break the bond to the body panels its heat that will degrade the bond after installation.

Re: sound deadening complete
im not disagreeing that asphault is more helped by heat. ive just seen mat jobs (regardless of the mat material) turn out alot better and last longer if properly sealed. its not so much cold, as condensation between the mat and metal...hot, cold, hot, cold, water. Hell, if you watched some of the original Roadkill instructional videos, they wanted all seams and edges caulked...and it was one of the first butyl products.

Re: sound deadening complete
There is no chance of water getting behind a properly installed mat. and a properly installed mat is achievable without heat during the install process.
How is heat during the install process going to speed up the process? if anything it will slow you down because you have to wait for even heat across the mat surface.
