Marine audio?
Anyone have experience with the marine line of any major brands?
Im doing a system on a Polaris Ranger side-by-side. Keeping a decent budget, but need deck, speakers, sub, etc.
Also, with the 10" sub...think I can get away with porting the sub if I keep the port away from the major elements? Or do i need to keep it sealed?
Looking at Alpine and Kicker. Also looked a bit into MTX...

Don't post here, but just happened to see this. You'll be fine using marine products. You may even be able to save some coin using some from partsexpress instead of the big brands. Here's to side-by-side installs that are pretty wild:
Polaris 1
Polaris 2

If you are building a subwoofer enclosure for boat and marine audio make sure you go for marine-grade plywood instead. Count on about 40-50 pounds of extra weight for a single subwoofer enclosure. Fiberglass subwoofer enclosures, on the other hand, can solve some of your problems. It is built in layers making it more versatile and allowing you to shape that box however your heart desires. It is lighter than the normal wooden box as well. The downside is that you will need to let go of more cash to make a fiberglass enclosure and have a lot more work building it.

seen that on a site as advice
or here..theres some ideas on here as well..

Re: Marine audio?
Lol. They build those things from mild to wild.
What does the owner do with it is what I would ask. If they go mud bogging and ride in the rain then I would def. go with marine. If its just a farm cruiser you could prob just get away with regular components and waterproof housings/box/etc.
If I were having you build me a system I would put some importance on weight as well...If you add 300lbs of stereo equip to a machine that only weighs 900 it will be quite drastic.

Re: Marine audio?
I have talked to him more than a few times. He's an old DJ and he know waht he wants. We are constantly evolving the plans.
It's not a mud bogger by anymeans, but he does plan on it getting wet by rain and snow.

Re: Marine audio?
get the marine coax, or use KMT6 which is a custome enclosed speaker made for a tower already, then mount a sub in the side. We've built many, but use L series subs.

I wanted to use the KMT6, but he wants to be able to swivel the speakers to face where he is working...i know, im trying to change his mind.
You have good results with the L series and being outside? He plans on using the Polaris rain or shine, and even in the snow at times, so I don't wanna ruin equiptment...

Re: Marine audio?
yes, we have good results but have the ability to change them as often as we want too :)
But if it is going to see any type of weather conditions, just do the marine subs and rock on :)
