Disc conversion brackets for 14bff
Just got these much needed disc conversion brackets in the mail today from http://www.diy4x.com/. We had to do some restoration work on the brakes of our trail clean up truck. Thanks to the donation from DIY4x4 we will be able to convert the 14bff to discs much easier now.

Thought I would post them here since the 4x4 guys all do this stuff and I have not seen it posted here much. These use 3/4 ton chevy fronts or caddy calipers to keep the parking brake.

there are dozens of places to get them. Great Lakes Offorad sells them on EBay, Sky Manufacturing, and Dunks Performance are just a couple that come to mind.

Re: Disc conversion brackets for 14bff
Maybe it allows the use of smallar drum brakes. Like from a s10 Blazer. There are plans for rear disc conversion where because of the 4wheel braking to have a parking brake you install a slightly smaller drum setup and you use the disc as a drum they did it on an episode of trucks.
the other way is to use the rear disc as the parking brake which eliminates 4wheel braking and the other is to have two sets of calipers like some cars have.

Re: Disc conversion brackets for 14bff
The brakets use full size 3/4 ton discs and calipers. If you want a parking brake you need to use 76-78 Caddy Eldorado calipers instead. They have a provision to stay locked for the parking brake function with the same discs.

That is all I know so far. I can post more pictures when I get them installed.

Re: Disc conversion brackets for 14bff
Well last night I got the DIY4x.com brackets on the truck. Thanks again to the help of Brigham (tools, beer drinking). Just for reference these are Eldorado calipers, 3/4ton front discs. I still have to make all the lines.

I also got the Detroit Locker in. Looks like we may have a working rear axle again soon.

Couple of quick pics for fun.

seriously, if you have no clue what you're talking about, DONT POST.

this is a VERY common swap for the 14ff. use of K20 calipers loses the parking brake feature, the caddy calipers (same size as the K20 caliper) have a provision to manually activate the piston, enabling it to be used as a parking brake (whick it was designed to be used as such)

Re: Disc conversion brackets for 14bff
ever pack wheel bearings on the front of a 2wd? replace wheel studs? if you've done either of those things, and find them easy as most truck enthusiasts will, it'll be a walk in the park.

Except that I have a 208 in the truck, which means I can't use that set up.
