Re: How many of yall have lifted classic's?
Extremjeepn: I never thought of it that way. I would rather replace my rear springs because they're older than me, and it's only a half ton truck, so it won't see any major hauling. Going on 3 years I've had it tomorrow, and I've never towed a thing so far. I just don't like the idea of blocks at all, but it's so much cheaper !
Slow4.7: That's a clean lookin' truck you got there. If that's 4" and 35's, that's more of the look I want. Do your front tires rub when you turn full lock?

interesting, because it has an '81 bed. see, in '82 (on single tank trucks only) they moved the location of the tank to the driver's side. that is a quick way to tell an '81 from an '82.

Is the camo working that well?? Looks to me like the filler door is on the driverside...

Re: How many of yall have lifted classic's?
there's no filler on the drivers side. you would clearly see its outline if there were. possibly an early '82 where they were using leftover beds from '81. though come to think of it, my '77 had the single tank inlet on the drivers side, PO added another tank, and cut a hole in the side of the bed to mount the filler neck to. when we put the bed off of my 82 on it, we planned to put another tank back in it (orig rusted out), but never got around to it. i'll be putting another filler door on the passenger side when i restore it, rather than the flush mounted filler.

Re: How many of yall have lifted classic's?
hmm...i looked at it again and it DOES kinda seem like there is a faint outline of a filler door there...we need better pics slow 4.7 or at least some confirmation from you...which side was the filler neck on this beast?

Re: How many of yall have lifted classic's?
LMAO, that WOULD happen. i had to look at that truck for a while...at first glance i thought it was a 1982-up military issue Chevy, then i "took a step back" and realized all that was wrong with it that proved it wasn't a military spec truck...then looking i couldn't see the fuel filler door on the driver side, so i figured it was a single-tanked 1981...but hell, maybe i DO see the filler door, i can't tell...

Re: How many of yall have lifted classic's?
ahh ok, then if it has single tanks that is, in fact, an '82...just like the owner said, imagine that...lol

Not so obvious like GreaseDog thought. I told you I saw it... the camo paint deceived you!!!

Re: How many of yall have lifted classic's?
i hear ya man, i can't wait until next year when i start putting money into my '83. she's really gonna come around, although my friend doesn't want me to change the color, he says it looks like the Fall Guy's truck...even though the color isn't even the same...he just says she has that "vibe"

Re: How many of yall have lifted classic's?
ok, i'll condense this as much as i can but i have some plans for her...
in Feb i'm installing a Jegs 350-already have (290 hp, 330tq) and a BTO 700R4 (built, not stock), along with a new delay wiper switch and a new carb/intake...also dual Flowmaster 44 series mufflers, exiting at 45* angles in front of the rear wheels, one pipe exiting on each side, with a chrome tip
eventually i wanna go with EFI, either TBI, TPI or Holley Stealth Ram...or possibly just throwing in a Duramax Diesel just for $h!ts and grins
i'm gonna install 1-ton running gear (if i ever do the d-max, i plan on also snagging the rear axle out of the donor truck, and using that instead of the "tried and true" 14-bolt...both axles will have some sort of traction device, most likely ARB air lockers, because i want to be able to disengage them when i want. 4.56-4.88 gears.
reinforcing the frame around the steering gearbox before it rips.
running the 1/2 ton frame (for added flexibility and because it's already there) until i break it, then upgrading to a shortened 1-ton frame
i plan on painting it either like in the sig (the p'shopped one) or just a dark silver with black 35th Anniversary Camaro SS racing stripes (they turn into checkered flags, which is bad@$$).
installing a 3" steel cowl hood
installing an '89-'91 GMC front grille with billet insert and GMC emblem
upgrading the interior to Sierra Classic or SLE standards to include all appropriate trim, bucket seats and power options...also to include outside trim. see, i don't know if i'm gonna follow through with the 89-91 theme, which would mean i'd need to put the lower molding on like the 88-98's have with 3500 logos, and a SLE logo behind the cab...or if i'm gonna keep behind the grille true to the '83 heritage and go with Sierra Classic 3500 badges on the outside and NO side trim. seats are most likely gonna be 88-94 hi back buckets done in a black/gray theme, with a custom GMC motorsports logo embroidered in the headrest...the center console is gonna be a modded 99-up Silverado unit (for now) that doubles as a third seat, so i can carry a third person if needbe
Line-X the bed
add a hefty winch bumper to the front (still looking, leaning towards Reunel, had one before, they are STOUT...buckstop is good too) with a 12,000 lb winch and auxilliary KC lights
rear aftermarket bumper and Warn "Pull-Pal" winch that will slide in the reciever hitch for rear winching duties
8-10" of lift with about a 37-40" tire
onboard air and welding capabilities
dual batteries
run 350 until she decides to give up or until i get bored and then rebuild it to a 383 or replace with another engine altogether.
possible 4L80E swap in the future or maybe even a manual
AE Baja wheels, nothing above an 18"...most likely about a 16-17"
i know there is more but that's the most of it...
