Re: Couldnt hold out any longer
long story short, my wife lived about 350 miles (each way) from me...before we were married of course...and her car broke down (needed motor) so i needed something that i could make that long trip in every weekend (or at least every couple of weekends) or we'd have never seen each other...she didn't want me to get rid of it...and neither did i...but i did what i felt i had to...my GMC will be done a LOT better than that one...it's just gonna take time.

it had a 454/SM465/NP205...14b FF rear axle, D44 front with 8-lug outers...only had 38's with 11" of lift...needed more...had a factory tach, that WORKED...oh, BTW, it was a Custom Deluxe and was BROWN originally...check out the interior...had '99 Dodge Ram power seats...buckets with folding center console and seat belts in the seats...didn't take a whole lot to install 'em either

sorry it's a crappy, smallish pic...

man, i didn't know K5s had been around that long...lol, just f*ckin with ya. yea, the rust belt kills vehicles. well, i wish the best for ya in your search. just make sure you look over any potential truck really well, but heck, i think you are MUCH better equipped to look at one of these classics than you were before...

I love that body style .... Cpl questions...how do you remove a windshield thats not broked and rear one?
I remeber using a guitar string or piano wire back in the day but was wondering if there was an easier method...

Re: Couldnt hold out any longer
that's about the best way to do it, and use LOTS of patience.

i wouldnt mind having a 67 small back window, or a 73-87 with the back half of a C60 cab grafted on, making it a small back window. just something about those trucks i like.

Re: Couldnt hold out any longer
i think i've seen it done. it bolts in just the same (for the most part) so i am sure it could be fabricated...would need to check frame widths though

I wouldnt mind getting a C10 around 84 with the quad headlights and droping it. A mean motor, maybe some copper pieces here an there plus it be a droptop.

Re: Couldnt hold out any longer
You planning on trying to keep everything 8-lug? If not, can try to source-out a junk/salvage yard for a rear-end with disc-brakes.

I had a few thoughts I tried to post last night when the computer decided to crash out on me. Was going to point out another source for body parts, fiberglass. USBodySource.com
Can just about replace everything on the truck, except front fenders, unless you get a whole clip (hood, front, and fenders).

I'd give you hand in the tear-down, but, I can't afford the gas to drive from Mississippi to Cali, or the speeding tickets.

Re: Couldnt hold out any longer
I was ripping into the front end trying to get the left fender off and i found a bit of rust..looks like a battery leaked or something because under the tray and next to ti is were it is and it follows it down to the bottom of fender...its making it a pain to remove these bolts...
