Re: Couldnt hold out any longer
if you've ever done wheel bearings on the front of a 2wd, the disc swap will be easy. pull the 8 axle shaft bolts, and slide the axle shaft out of the way.now you can get to the wheel bearing nuts. take them off, and pull the drum and hub assembly off. now take your backing plate and all of the associated drum hardware off of the axle. bolt the conversion bracket in place. now take your drum/hub assembly and pound the lug studs out of it. install the rotor in place of the drum, and press the studs back into the hub. repack the bearings and install them, torquing them to spec. now put the caliper on the bracket, and plumb it up. not much to it really.

Re: Couldnt hold out any longer
Well, it looks as though your truck is in better shape than mine. There's a lot less rust on yours. I haven't been out there all week because it's too damn cold. I plan to try and remove the exhaust pipes tomorrow.
I had a rude awakening when tearing into my front end. I was shocked to see the fender's structure completely rusted while the outer skins were fine. I just paid my property taxes this weekend so it'll be a while before I can buy replacements. If you decided to pull the radiator support off, don't do what I did and use brute force alone to unbolt it. Use some heat on those bolts. I'm looking at $90 for a radiator support mounting kit because I broke my bolts, destroyed the rubber, and need to replace the washers. As for the trim piece on the hood, I vote for deleting it. I love chrome, but, that piece doesn't look right.

My truck was a california no snow or salt truck also. Huge differance.. But after messing with the fenders and removing them and the wheel dealy's. I found rust, pretty good too, but i think mine was due to a battery leak or such cuz it was were it sat and you could see it had leaked down to the fender, thats it so far on the front clip, to cold for me to be outside messing with it... And i wont be keeping the chrome trim ..it just came with the truck.... see your lucky because your garage is big enough for your truck. my main house garage is but its been made into another room so i am working out of the hotrod gargae, its usaully were my 55 chevy sits but its now in a paid storage for winter.. so needless to say its not big enough. the truck only fit in with the f/r bumpers off and then the door barley shut. so i am making a cheap extension that will be covered so i can get this truck on jacks and really start ripping into it..as of right now i have to pull it in and out of the garage to work on it, without a front clip its not easy to do, i got my battery sitting strapped to the upper a arm.. But as of this weekend I will be adding on so i can finnally get it up off the ground. I am gonna pull the bed off this weekend hoefully...I am sure that is heavy so i might have to get help... then we will really see how much rust is under it............... And jax....nvm, why waste my time 1975 3/4 c-20 -- sadly sold 1997 1500 silverado- jet stage 2 performance chip, jet air sensor thingy, edlebrock headers, catback exhaust. Re: Couldnt hold out any longer
Well when you go from having a 3 car fully equipped garage with lift and all tools imaginable to a shed, kinda sucks...thats what a divorce will do to ya,lol.
But thanks, its coming with the rain and lil bit of snow flurries i am buried inside playing w.o.w. I did run into two things that concern me on the truck...I am going for a nice clean look on my truck right, well my cab has a few dents on the roof towards the rear on lip right were it starts to go down to the window ( I will get pics) do you think they will come out? they are small, if not i will replace the whole cab. dont wanna but i will.... also youll love this ( will get pics of this to) my dash pretty much feel to pieces when i took it out, just dust almost, someone tried to fix it or something but its a mess.... how do i tell what tranny my truck has? 1975 3/4 c-20 -- sadly sold 1997 1500 silverado- jet stage 2 performance chip, jet air sensor thingy, edlebrock headers, catback exhaust. Re: Couldnt hold out any longer
the dents can be removed either by PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) or a good body guy.
those dashes get real brittle when they get old. i bet mine wouldn't be too sturdy if i removed it either. although it WILL be removed eventually because it has a few cracks (covered by a dashmat) and i'm changing interior color to black. as for tranny, you can tell by your pan. look HERE <---thanks 454SS!!1991 Chevy Silverado K1500 extended cab, 350, 700R4 with shift kit, exhaust work...in need of body work...lol... 1983 GMC Sierra K1500 sold...
