Re: Started working on my girl
well, you can get a 14b FF (Full Floating) rear axle from any 20-30 series truck. it can even be a 2wd since your 8-lug bolt patterns are the same...

Re: Started working on my girl
for a 1/2 ton with a 14FF transplant, go for a 20 series truck or Suburban, as it's a bolt in deal. the 30 series trucks have a narrower spring pad width. if you find one with both front and rear axles intact and matching, the front will be almost identical to your current front axle, if not identical (10 bolt front and Dana 44s are comparable in strength.)

Re: Started working on my girl
GD, did the K30s have a Dana 44 in the front? Why so light-duty, when both Ford and Dodge got the Dana 60 front?

Re: Started working on my girl
the 77.5-79 Ford axles will fit but will require a drivers side drop transfer case, and the Dodge axles will be able to use a stock passenger side drop transfer case, the spring spacing on the Dodges are about 1/2" off, but you can make the springs fit just fine.

Re: Started working on my girl
nothing as far as parts, just squeeze the springs together to fit into the perches, and bolt it up. there are a bunch of guys running around with Dodge 60s in Chevys. squeezing them together is easier with taller springs too, as they dont have to pivot as far at the bushing.

Re: Started working on my girl
i would look into custom springs, Deavers, Nationals, or Alcans seem to be the most popular.

for the rear, a 14FF will do just fine.

He already answered that question - get a 14-bolt full-floater off a 1-ton Chevy/GMC, tis quite possibly the strongest readily-available axle for a pickup truck.

no, you want one out of a 3/4 ton if you want a direct bolt in to a 1/2 ton truck.
