Started working on my girl
Last night I started working on my truck. Its a 79 GMC K10 4x4 with a 350ci and a 350tranny.I am in the process of tearing down the truck to the frame to. I want to redo the frame black with this stuff that my teacher is getting me. Its a to stage paint type thing that coats the frame. After that will be the exhaust (flowermaster super 40), brakes, shocks. and other little things to pass the safety. When on the road it will be getting a set of "33" mud tires not sure witch ones yet. Then interior work and Bright YELLO paint with power coated black rims.

Sorry about the size of the pictures don't know how to down size them.

Re: Started working on my girl
looks like decent truck to start with. My only advice would be to you would be replace your fenders and add lift to clear your tires, hacked fenders look like crap.

Oh your missing a carriage bolt on the passenger side of your bumper

when and if you do go to replace the fenders, keep in mind that they're not 79 fenders. those are 81+ fenders.

@ Chevyforlife502: Are you sure you have a '79, not a '85-'87?

To downsize them: above each pic there is edit, click it, then there should be resize. You can make them smaller but not bigger.

not a bad truck to start with, good luck with it and yes that truck appears to be 85-87 with the nose and dash on it. Some people convert them to the newer style nose/dash as they are easy enough to convert but I would check to make sure you do have matching numbers

Re: Started working on my girl
now that i think about it, the structural part of the dash on the 81+ trucks are the same as the 73-80s, just the cover is different.

Yes the paper work and VIN match up its a 79. I am planning to change the fender when i do the body work. The guy that owned it before me cut them to fit 33 i guess. I thought they would fit without cutting. Also in a year or so i am planning on putting her on a 10 inch lift with 38's or so.

Yeah, that's what I keep thinking. When I look at my truck, I picture what it's going to look like when I'm done. My wife see's an oil leaking pile of crap filling up the garage...

Re: Started working on my girl
Last night I took the box off my truck and I was quite supprised with the shape of the frame. Before i started working on my truck i was working on my buddies 89. And his frame is 10 times worse than mine. I will be posting pictures soon.

Good truck to start with and if your gonna go 10" lift with 38" tires or bigger, start resourcing 1 ton axles, or improved parts for the ones you have....but thats a whole different thread.

My wife says if we ever get divorced she will have to hand the divorce papers under the truck cause thats where I'll be.
