Smokey engine
Iv got a 78" 350 that smokes out of the driver side bank. (truck has true duels) Any idiea What its from? Could be alot of things I know. Is there a way to know if its a vale leak or rings?

Lets see... on my 88 it was the head gasket, but I don't know if it's the same with the '78s.

what color smoke that will help alot

white equals coolant
blue equals oil
black equals too much fuel

Do a compression test first. Also check the plugs, they will show if its oil.
78 c10, shortbed/stepside: 5/5" drop, muncie M20, 11:1 388 stroker. Playtoy and first vehicle.

Pull the valve cover and see if the drain holes are plugged. RW

I have seen transmission vacuum modulators cause oil smoke although you said it is only one bank.

Nice, Iv often wondered what a leak down gauge was for. So what did all thouse parts cost? About thirty five bucks or so?

i didnt even keep track. i know i paid like $20 for the regulator, and the gauge was like $17. had i used black pipe, or galvanized, it would've neen significantly cheaper, but it wouldnt come out near as clean looking.

You run the test at opperaiting temp just like a compersion test?

i would use it at operating temp if possible, as the pistons and rings will expand and have an effect on the seal of the bore.
