Carb questions for 86 model.
Posted on here a while back as I had just aquired my truck minus an engine. Well I rebuilt the engine and all is well until about once every 100 miles or so, the truck will stumble and die. When it does this it will continue to do it for an hour or so. Has new HEI distributor and coil so I'm 99.9% positive it's a fuel delivery problem. Also has a new (but cheap) inline electric fuel pump. Well, I bought a rebuild kit for the carb and tore it all to pieces. Come to find out neither of the two air horn gaskets match the ait horn as neither have provisions for the TPS actuator plunger or the pump assembly. It is very possible that this is not the original carb, though I believe it is. There is a bar code on the side of the carb with the number 5202 written next to it. Anyone know which rebuild kit I need? The kit I have from Advance Auto is a GP Sorensen repair kit part# 96-519A. Any help would be much appreciated. Also, anyone have any experience, tips, advice on what to look for when rebuilding a Rochester 4 barrell. I'm a Holley man but want to stick with this carb for fuel efficiency and also I'm hard headed and I know this thing worked well from the factory so it's just a matter of me figuring it out.

Thanks, Scott

Download this DOC file:

http://www.florida4x4.com/tech/quadr...ning_Paper.doc

Pay attention to page 2, it tells you where the carb identification number is, and what it means - decode your carb, then get a rebuild kit that matches not what you should have, but what you actually have.

Re: Carb questions for 86 model.
Hey, good info there. Seems the carb is not original to the truck. Found the right kit and buttoned it up this afternoon. Truck runs like a top. I think my problem was just the float bieng adjusted way too low. Running out of gas during hard acceleration or on severe slopes. Anyway it's rebuilt now and thanks again for the info.
