Re: 700R4 to 4speed manual
I also wish that "work" didn't exhist, and i could just tinker with my truck all the time. now i work to pay off the gas companies to heat my house, provide electricity, and power my cars and trucks to get to work, so I can pay off the gas companies.....etc. etc. go on and on and on forever.

everything revolves around oil...but here I am making a truck that will use more of it....funny world we live in

that's like saying whats the difference between and angus hamburger and a tofu hot dog! a 208 is a chain driven aluminum case that was only available with a slip yoke in the rear, though it does offer a 2.6X:1 low range, where the 205 is a gear driven cast iron cased monster with PTO outputs. it was also available in slip yoke or fixed yoke rear outputs, and offers a 2:1 low range.

Re: 700R4 to 4speed manual
thanks for the insight! lol....guess I need to read up on this 205....

would the 83 3/4 ton I just bought and tore apart come with a 208 or a 205?? it has a slip yoke on the rear...come to think about it, the tag says the ratio is 261, so obviouslly from what you said, it is a 208...thanks for the help.

Re: 700R4 to 4speed manual
fork boot PN: 330811 is the used in light truck applications from 73-78. if you're running a mechanical clutch setup, i dont see why this one wouldnt work for you.

Re: 700R4 to 4speed manual
81+, if its not a 1 ton, it cant have a 205 from the factory. 81-87 = NP208, 88-91 = NP241

Re: 700R4 to 4speed manual
Thanks for the information! Now what about splines on the rear slip yoke? would the two be the same from my 86 1/2 ton 700r4 to the 83 3/4 ton SM465 that I am stealing the tranny out of??I am using the tcase from the 83 and using the current 12bolt that is on my 86 for now until I can afford a lift then I will throw the 14sf on there and the 10bolt front (4.10 gears) thanks!!

Re: 700R4 to 4speed manual
the shafts will be different lengths. ideally, you could go to the junkyard, find a truck with a similar wheelbase, and the same transfer case/trans combo, and use the rear shaft from it. the 465 is considerably shorter than the 700R4, so the 700R4 shaft will be too short.

Re: 700R4 to 4speed manual
they should be close enough to work, though you may need a conversion ujoint.

Re: 700R4 to 4speed manual
Thank you for the info, Im guessing a conversion Ujoint has the one size ujoint caps on 2 of the posts and the other size ujoint caps on the other...my terms are probably way off but i think I have an idea of what you are talking about. Now where would i pick them up??? any parts store?
