Are oobs crew cab short bed 1500s rare?
Im workin on sellin my camaro so I can get somethin else to play with and I stumbled across this 1988 oobs crew cab short bed 1500 4x4 for like 4000. Its got a fuel injected 350 in it and the guy said the panit is in really good shape. Thats about all i know about it, What kind of axles would this truck have? Just a 10 bolt? It just caught my eye and I thought it would be a cool lifted truck project. Just trying to find out a little more about it since i dont know much about the oobs trucks. Any info or things to look for would be helpful, thanks guys.

oobs crewcab shortbeds arent rare at all, they're all modified. there is no crewcab shortbed truck pre-97 or 98.

By crew cab, do you mean four full sized doors?

regardless, anything longer that a standard cab with a short bed is not stock. there were no other models offered with a 6' box, other than the standard cab.

really? I didnt know that, so what did it probably start life as? a suburban and a short bed truck put together or a crew long bed modified to a short bed. Yes it has four full doors. I have only seen a couple of them online and that must be y they were never made. Thanks for the info greasedog

It will probalby have the 10 bolt. K30's had the 14 bolt and the Dana 60 IIRC.

What era are we talking about? I just fixed a buddies '94 Extended cab shortbox K2500 here a few weeks ago.

Square body stuff...never a short box behind a crew cab stock. Not terribly hard to do, as long as you can actually find a short bed. I haven't had any luck finding a 6 foot bed...

Right, '88-up, short bed extended cabs were very common; short beds seemed to be more common than long beds period. '73-'87, no short beds on anything but single cabs. Long beds were the most common, even on single cabs.

Right. Most people take a 3/4ton crew cab long bed and cut the frame to make it a shortbed. There are lots of 1/2 ton 88-up extended cabs but no crew's that I know of from the factory.
78 c10, shortbed/stepside: 5/5" drop, muncie M20, 11:1 388 stroker. Playtoy and first vehicle.
98 gmc x-cab: 5.7L, 17"s, 5/6" drop, flowmaster,K&N, air ride helper bags, kicker sterio.

They actually made the '73-87 style crew cabs thru '91 along with the Burbs and Blazers. They were all long beds and were either 3/4 ton or one ton. Any 4 door trucks with short beds or half ton running gear are custom and should be gone over in depth before you buy them.

Not in 1988. GM did make a crew cab short bed 2500 toward the later years of the OBS trucks. Not very common however.

Didn't the '88-up have IFS? Unless it was a four door, then it would be the '73-'87 body style, and then have solid axle-leaf springs up front?

you could get OOBS standard cabs in certain configurations up until 91 too, they were all 1 ton though.

uh... you may have the same drivetrain, but you do not have the same aerodynamics, or anything close. if you're getting 20.5 mpg out of an 81-87 truck, the only guys even close to touching you in milage are the diesel guys who have their entire drivetrains perfectly dialed in to their driving habits.
