Bought a truck for my brother
Hey guys, well, I just bought an 85 Chevy Silverady 3/4 ton with a 350 and 4 speed manual (hydro clutch) for my brother...he is coming down this weekend once again and we are going to throw a clutch in it. It was for 500 bucks and runs great, but the clutch is SHOT! the body is ok, not alot of rust, and the paint looks great where it isn't rusted. Looks like it was washed alot, but not cleaned underneath, cause all the rust is bubbling up from underneath.

It has dual tanks which hold 60 gallons total (says in the glovebox) 373 gears, 14bolt SF in the back and 10 bolt in the front...reg cab long box with a new bed liner. i will get some pics this weekend when we are putting a clutch in it.

Now I am jelous, I want my truck to have a hydrolic clutch....darned him anyways. Oh well, that is life.

Thanks guys!

if its got 2 saddle tanks under the bed, the glovebox is wrong. the biggest saddle tank you can get is 20 gal, which would be 40 total. GM never offered a Burb/Blazer tank under the rear of a pickup from the factory. you probably misread it.

after putting a South Bend Clutch in my truck, i'm not so sure i want to fool with converting to hydro, though it would be cheaper than replacing the worn out clutch linkage that it currently has.

Re: Bought a truck for my brother
I didn't think that was right...I will get pics as soon as I get the truck to my house...it is sitting until friday when my brother comes over and then we can pull it to my house.

Did any manufacturer offer 30gal saddle tank upgrades?? There is also a tag under the hood on the rad support that says it holds 60 gallons...maybe someone was just goofing off. who knows!

Thanks guys, and pics up soon

Re: Bought a truck for my brother
no, 20 gallons of explosive fluid was all you could get. 16 gallons if it was a shortbed. sounds like a nice truck though. post pics if you get a chance. GD, how is the south bend clutch holding up? i installed one in my old '96 F350 4x4 and broke it in gently behind my 7.3 Powerstroke and after the 1,000 mile break in i got on it and it slipped like a mother...never gripped again...South Bend refused to make it right...i hate them...

Re: Bought a truck for my brother
its doing great! i literally backed it out of the garage after the install, locked it in 4hi, pulled over to the snow blade and went out plowing with it that same night. no break in at all. ended up with a custom made diaphragm pressure plate and a kevlar disc. havent had any issues with it at all. pulled my 94 here, and pulled my buddy's astro van here for a fuel pump change without an issue. i'm never buying a clutch from anywhere else again! we'll see how its really doing when i pull the tranny later this summer to install the hydraulic belhousing in it.

Re: Bought a truck for my brother
I just put a replacement clutch in mine from Advanced auto, seems to work great. My brother got the same exact one for his new truck and we are throwing it on this weekend in his new truck. I will get pics of the truck when we pick it on Sat.

Re: Bought a truck for my brother
not a problem, anytime! We are picking the truck up tomorrow, towing it to my house and tearing it apart to fix the clutch.... Anyone know how to rewire power windows?? The truck has power windows and locks but the windows don't work....think we are going to put in manual windows from my donor truck..............who knows

Re: Bought a truck for my brother
the wiring for them isn't hard to trace. there isn't that many, i'd just fix what's there...check your fuses first though...might have had a motor start dragging and the strain popped a fuse...

Re: Bought a truck for my brother
Hey guys, well, the clutch is in, everything is put together, but when we went to do the testdrive the clutch wouldn't engage....we troubleshot and found a bent clutch rod to the master cylinder. we tried to bend it back to at least test the clutch but it was a futile effort. So now we need a new master cylinder.....anyone know if advance or NAPA stock this part??? Are there any other car/trucks master cylinders that would work for this if they don't?

One more thing, there is a type of brake device on the rear axle, it has like manual linkage that connects to the rear axle, to a type of splitter that is on the frame. the "splitter" has two lines that look like brake lines coming out of it, one of the lines splits in two and goes to both rear wheels, and the other one looks like it goes to the front wheels....

what the heck is this thing?? I have never seen anything like it before....

my guess would be it is some type of a brake/load transfer that when it senses alot of load on the rear axle, it gives it more brake power to the rear or something...I don't know.

Re: Bought a truck for my brother
i went through my power window circuit in my Jimmy trying to find the problem and it turned out to be burned out motors in the door itself. Hard to find a replacement for cheap too, so it's best to go manual.
<-Thanks Chuggs

it is. without a load on the truck, you wont have hardly any rear brakes. bypass it, or remove it altogether, its a crap system.
