Headlights Issue
Hey guys!

I am having issues with my headlights, or my Drivers side dim light. When I have the lights on dim, it goes out, but if i have it on brights, they all 4 come on. This is an 86 Chevy Scottsdale, 4x4 350/SM456 12bolt rear, 10 bolt front etc....it has the 4 headlight frontend, with sealed beam single brightness headlights. The dimmer switch is on the console.

What should I check first?? Im guessing it is something to do with the switch, but Im lost on where to troubleshoot. I have a multimeter, and i know how to use it, but don't know what to test.

Thanks guys!!!

Re: Headlights Issue
The 4 high all on is normal. That is just how they are set up.

So if I understand correctly the issue is the low beam does not work or is glitchy, but comes on in 4 high?
Which low beam light is acting up, driver or passenger?
If Passenger, check the cross wires to feed the passenger light, they may be frayed in the drivers housing, or anywhere along the core support.

Either way you are chasing wires on the low beam circuit. Lucky for us it is very simple and very short.

Re: Headlights Issue
chances are your low beam filimant in the lamp is out. no biggie just needs a new lamp.
clint
you can test it with a volt meter. how, just find a diagram of your cars headlamp system and go from there.

Nope, high beams on = 4 headlights on.
