It truly does not matter where you buy it from, hell most crap is made elsewhere and repackaged anyway.
I think it is sad that more "Foreign cars" are actually "made" here more than most "American cars".

Re: help with 88-91 front converstion
My truck was made in St. Louis, Missouri, and I intend to keep the domestic parts content as high as I possibly can.

Foreign automakers want you to think their cars are just as domestic these days as domestic cars, but domestic parts content numbers show that not to be the case... for a while, anyway. Eventually, everything will be made in China and Taiwan and just assembled here (at best).
The coming nitromethane shortage is a good example of how being dependent on other countries for stuff you need or just want is such a totally awesome idea.

Sorry to tell you, but unless you pay for a nos part, it's foreign.
I was referring to the newer "Domestic" cars as not being "American" made. Cause simply they are not. Canada, Mexico, or Chinese stamped metal.
I guess the same goes for foreign cars, the sub assemblies arrive, and final assembly takes place here.

I fully think this country needs to get it's head on straight and get off foreign influence and dependence.
I realize that since some companies came into existence (Wal-Mart) for example has crashed local economies and driven down salaries for working families. So we have become dependent on the lowest price, no matter where it is made.

I also think it is totally ridiculous that this country imports oil for diesel fuel. By even the D.O.E. reports that all it would take is 15,000-20,000 acres of man made algae bogs at a cost of under 50 million (As opposed to 150+ million) to produce our own bio-Diesel. And only a time table of 6 months to start producing tens of millions of barrels of Bio-mass fuel.

Do a search for Algae bio-diesel, it takes corn and farm land out of the equation making it the next great hope if we can keep the damn republicans out.

Re: help with 88-91 front converstion
Last I checked, domestics still beat imports overall at domestic content. However, Canada is included in domestic content for some reason, and there are some cars that are exceptions to the rule, like the Ford Fusion or something like that. But if it comes down to it, I guess I'd rather have something made in Mexico than China, and Mexico is where Ford has alot of the Fusion stuff made.
As far as parts, you're right that almost everything not original or NOS is from China or Taiwan, but there are a few exceptions. C.A.R.S. stamps their own sheetmetal here in the US, for example, but I don't know if they make anything for our trucks. They do make 68-72 Nova stuff though, so I'll be buying from them if I ever have to replace vintage sheetmetal.
You gotta be on your toes if you want to avoid buying stuff from overseas. I just read on another message board that alot of "American" Racing Equipment's wheels are now made in China. F*ck that! I'll buy used stuff and restore it like people did years ago before I buy stuff made overseas.
As far as Republicans, bio-diesel, oil, and everything else, the Democrats are just as bad IMO - they all want to sell us out to the highest foreign bidder, and I hate them for it.
