Engine change!!
Well....I finally got tired of the supercharged 5.7 TBI and the TERRIBLE (9.5mpg)gas mileage.

I bought a 5.3 with the computer and all the accessories from a 2007 Silverado with 18,000 miles on it. I will be putting the Z06 cam in it this weekend and should have the headers Monday or Tuesday so I can start the swap next week sometime. I am keeping my 700R4 since it was just rebuilt this year.

This swap should give me more horsepower AND better mileage.

Re: Engine change!!
If I could get a 5.3 for a decent price I would do it...
But as is, my best bet is my 383, and keep d/ding my 93 mid size olds that gets 28MPG.

Re: Engine change!!
You'll get better mileage and power. At a minimum, your starting out with 315hp and 335tq before the z06 cam. Consider a higher stall too if it's in the budget. That will compliment the cam nicely.

Mileage on the 5.3 is 16-19 with reports even higher if you keep out the throttle.

Good luck with the swap. Post pictures of the swap.

Re: Engine change!!
I work part time at a pickup accessory and speed shop and bought it from a friend of the owners. I only paid $850, so I am sure I can fit a torque converter into the budget. If you've had any experience with this kind of swap, what stall would you suggest?

just the tunability alone is worth installing the 60E.

oh yeah, i mean you can install a 125$ transgo shift kit and make the transmission shift nice and firm... i mean its not by anymeans bullit proof, just as strong as the 700r4 if not stronger.

what headers did you choose for your swap? engine mount adapters? are you going to be running a/c? you can retain factory a/c if you make your own bracket, or modify the 50$ pre made ones.

Re: Engine change!!
Putting a 6.0 into my 82 was the best thing I could have done for my truck. It outran the 350 by a mile. But it's carbureted though.

The Zo6 cam still usen't huge by any means so you should go easy on the TC, I would say around 2300rpm and make sure its a lockup type.

Re: Engine change!!
Since I am in Oklahoma and this is a daily driver, I will definitely be keeping the AC. The manager of our speed shop and the mechanic have done a couple of these swaps and ordered the mounts and headers. I am not sure which headers he ordered but they are long tube coated.
I am using a premade wire harness and stand alone ecm with some of the un-needed program areas deleted. I think it may have been the Painless or Current Performance pieces.

Re: Engine change!!
two months later.... what's the status?

build up the trans. modified 5.3s tend to break stuff. I've been rebuilding the 4L6xE transmissions lately. It's a learning experience for me. Have gotten better rebuilding stronger.
