head gasket
hi i have a 1983 k10 chevy 4x4. The truck has water in the oil. I all ready bout the head gasket at Oreillys for about 15 dollars how hard is it to do and i know it is only the drivers side leaking sould i replace both sides while i have it off?

you're what 17 bolts away from removing the other head, do it now, and you wont have to go through pulling everything else off again.

replace both and make shure to re-install the distributer correctly...
R.I.P. white lightining. i wont run my 4WD out of oil though!

new truck: 1978 stepside, green, 4wd, 350(Holley carb,edelbrock intake,headers, flowmasters)

retorque them dudes. and before you put em together, check for flatness on the deck of the block and the heads. and obviously clean em up real good and make sure theres NOTHING left on the block and the heads before you put em on.

i guess if i would have looked at your sig pic, i wouldve asnwered my own question. i thought those accessory drive brackets looked funny.

If I were you I'd return the gasket and get the full gasket set for about $44 at autozone, since you'll have to replace all these gaskets to pull off the head, plus it comes with new valve stem seals. I would also pick up a new head bolt set, $21, as most older head bolts are rated for 1 time use. These prices come from autozone and are for fel-pro parts. You'll also need coolant, thread lock, high temp sealant, plenty of rags, and parts cleaners (you should clean the heads while they are off to check for visible defects.)
