1977 CHEVY K10 questions....i know you guys have answers...
Ok ive done alot of research but id like to hear it from you guys....i have a 1977 cheyenne short bed k10. What are the specs and options for this truck? It does have a factory lift...correct?? Also it has dana's on it and according to the year it shouldnt.... The leaf springs also look really thick for a half ton...but it does have 6 lug wheels. the rpo codes are long gone and i cant find anything but the vin# and ive already checked it.Also id like to see any and all stock pics of a 77 k10 that you guys have .thanks in advance guys i appreciate the help and knowledge

"factory lift is fitting 31's confortaly,33's with some rubbing"if it has bigger tires than that it has a aftermarket lift and most lift companys have HD lifts for k20 k25,or the normal lift for k10 k15,but the people before you might have put a HD lift on ur truck, and the people could've swaped danas in instead of the 10 bolts

why would it have to be a swap? didn't a lot of 1/2 ton 4x4's come equipped with dana fronts?

yes but by 77 i heard they changed that and started using gm diffs. It has danas front and rear. i currently run 32's on it. I could easily goto 35's if i could afford them ahaha

Re: 1977 CHEVY K10 questions....i know you guys have answers...
my 77 has a corporate 10 up front and a gm 12 bolt rear, from what ive read 76 was the last year they primarely used the dana 44 upfront, and if its a 1/2 ton i believe it absolutley should have had a 12 bolt rear no dana

Re: 1977 CHEVY K10 questions....i know you guys have answers...
A '77 probably would have come with a 12 Bolt truck axle in the rear, but I'm not sure which year they completely phased out the Dana Spicer axle. As for the springs, that could be part of a Camper or towing package. What type of door mirrors does it have? My '78 originally had those big tri-pod mirrors as part of a tow package, and had the heavy rear springs, I think they were six leafs. I don't remember exactly what they were though, I scrapped them for some of the lighter 4 leafs with heavier overloads and a block.

these guys are dead on.
77-79 are really hit and miss with the Dana 44 or 10 bolt front end. no real rhyme or reason for one or the other being there. they just both pop up.
if its 6 lug in the rear, its going to be one of two things, a 10 bolt, or a 12 bolt, both GM Corporate designs. if its got anything made by Dana in it, someone has done some major work and swapped it in.

the leaf packs have been added to significantly if you havce 5 leaves in the front, stock leaf packs are 3 at most.

I would think you should have a GM 12 bolt in the rear. Not sure about the front. It could be a Dana.
That sounds like a LOT of leaves in the front. My dad's 83 Custom Deluxe 20 didn't have that many. I want to say it had three.

Re: 1977 CHEVY K10 questions....i know you guys have answers...
thats not a stock front leaf pack. my 10,000# GVWR 81 only had 3 leaves, my 77 K20 only has 2. no way a lighter truck should have more leaves stock than the heavier trucks.

Yep. Thats definately been molested in a way that would make it capable of carrying much more weight than it was ever designed to carry.
