Question FNG Tilt column question
Hey guys'

I am the FNG for today asking a FNG question!

I have a friend that has a 77 gmc "parts truck".This thing has a tilt wheel,p/w and p/l,cruise etc.I was wondering what it would take,if at all possible to swap the cruise and tilt over to my 86 GMC shorty?

My 86 is a 305,4 spd granny but i thought maybe i could still use the column by driving out the auto lever off the tilt?Would the wiring still work vs. the 86's?

I am trying to talk him outa' the power windows and locks along with the tilt and cruise(cause i would like to have them on my daily beater)He is only really interested in the 454/th400 in it anyhow. He allready agreed to let me have the tilt and cruise.

Any help would be great, before i get into something thats a bucket of worms!

Should be no problem!
You should have little or no problem doing a direct swap...you could also swap both column pieces so yours would not have the auto shift section but the one from your Granny....

GM did not change these trucks much during their design reign

NOPE!!! WRONG $HIT!!!!!!
Hey, The column is the wrong one...... I believe it was after 81 that they put the wiper controls & dimmer switch on the column instead of on the dash & floor as the 77 has. Although the two columns WILL bolt in, they are NOT compatible(unless you feel like takin' the columns apart & swapping the wiring). NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! :thumbsdow

Also, the shift collar from your non tilt, floor shift column is different from the tilt column's.You will need to get the collar from a tilt, floor shift column. Best bet, try GM, I think they are under $35 for the collar.

I also believe you may want the windows/pdl from the 81 & up trucks as I believe they changed to the smaller(& less expensive)motors with them...

Just hold off & check the wreckin yards, I'm sure someone will have one sooner or later....
