Front crossmember swap

Hey guys I have a fairly rust-free 70 C10. My question comes is what is involved in doing a crossmember swap from a 73-87 C10. My current front end is wore out to say the least the last time it was drove we found wear marks on the sidewall where the tires leaned so far. Any links to pics will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

They aren't the same body style of trucks.

Save for reaming two holes where they don't quite line up it is a direct bolt in

I have a front crossmember from a 91 R3500 under my 70 C-2500 GMC

Does your '70 have disc on the front ? If it is still drum I would swap crossmembers to get the disc setup , if it is already disc , save yourself the hassle and replace the worn components , if the truck is assembled it is a PIA to swap the crossmembers .

Don't forget to swap to a disc M/C and proportioning valve if you are upgrading to disc brakes , and don't forget about the 6 lug rear you still will have .

Re: Front crossmember swap

I have a '65 with a 73-87 front end on it. All I did was swap the control arms and spindles. I now have disc in the front 1" and I did this because of the location from the brake line to brake hose connection lines up perfectly with a monte carlo brake hose. If you use the 1.25" then you need to relocate that connection point. I did not have to bore any holes or anything like that. It went right in. You should probably note that the tie rods may be different sizes though so you may have to get an adapter. CPP sells them. Pretty simple for me though. I even have drop spindles on it now.
