Just picked up a 1950 Chevy 3100, have a few questions

I just picked up a 1950 Chevy 3100 5 window truck that I need a little help on. In fact I think its older then a 53, but Ill figure that out later. I have no idea what has been changed out on it but it appears to be mostly unmolested. I looked under the truck and it has an axle that looks similar to a Ford 9", but has a tube that runs up to the front with the driveshaft inside, is this a Torque Tube? Is there any way to convert it to a regular driveline or just find a transmission that will fit? I would really like to use a newer Inline 6 and a Borg Warner T5 from a Camaro.

Also, what is the best version of the Inline 6 to use? I read up on them and it seems that the later 235s were good because of the updated oiling system, but the 250s and 292s also seemed to be good candidates. I would like to make the engine itself as bolt in as possible.

if it were me, i'd go for a 292 with an NV3500 or 4500. the T5s are notoriously weak, and the torque of the 292 might not be good to it. when i had my '49 it had a 350/TH350 combo in it, with a 12 bolt from a K5 or K10. the entire factory drivetrain were long gone.

my 50 fleetline still has the torque tube in it, just find a differnt rear axle, and have a drive shaft made. as far as the 6's go mine has a 235 which is a great motor, but a little under powered so i would stick with a 250 atleast but would recommend the 292.

Re: Just picked up a 53? 3100, have a few questions

After thinking about it I would rather actually keep the stock rear axle, and just do the engine. I guess its down to either a 250 or 292, whichever I can find first.

I believe this one is actually a 1950 now that I had a chance to look it over, theres no wing windows, door handles are turn instead of a button, 9 piece wood bed, etc.

I did get some pics of it though!

The floor isnt even rusted!

This is the only real damage to the truck, the drivers door hinge is seized and someone tried opening the door and bent this part. Id sure like to kick whoever did this' ass.

Its also missing the tailgate, will I be able to use one off a 60s stepside? It looks like its close.
