67 Firebird Engine

Hey, so I've got a 67 firebird that i'm restoring. It has the pontiac OHC 6 motor in it now, but I'm going to put a small block. My only problem is: which one? I've done a bit with these motors, and I'm split between a 327, 350, or 383. I was looking for a high nickel content corvette 327 motor, but I can't find one. As far as 350s go, they're a dime a dozen and are too common. Anchorage has a pretty big hotrod community and I don't want it to just be another 350. Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: 67 Firebird Engine

why not stay Pontiac?

if you're dead set on the Chevy, build a 383.

Re: 67 Firebird Engine

Stay Pontiac (455 IMHO) but if you have to switch.....go with a LS series motor.

It'll be different yet still "Pontiac" since Pontiac used them for the 77-79 Trans Am and the 77 Grand Prix.

Yeah kinda "Pontiac" since they did use them like you said, they were also used by Buick and some GMC motorhomes of the era , The 403 was all Olds

Kinda overlooked ( and only produced for 3 years, 77-79) they were introduced as a smog meeting low hp high tq engine, built correctly it'll hang with alot of other choices, main bearing web's and siamesed bores were it's achillies heel .

Just my 02

Re: 67 Firebird Engine

Could throw in a GNX turbocharged 3.8 V6, that's kind of different.

Re: 67 Firebird Engine

If you want to be different, keep the OHC 6.

You hardly ever see those around any more and they have alot of potential. My buddy has a 67 also that had one in it when he got it and I was pretty impressed with it in stock form.
