The Chicago is easy to work with. It does bog down when you apply pressure, but not bad. Just keep it at an adequate speed (1500-2000) and you should be fine. I had maybe 2 hours of rotary experience before I tackled my car with it, and it's easy as hell to use now. I still get very few swirls every now and then, but the PC takes those out. Justtake your time with it. It took me like 4-5 hours to get my sisters Ram as best I could without burning the paint or leaving swirls, and I finished it without a flaw
I really want a DeWalt 849 now, but I can't justify $250+ at the moment

i feel you man. I will give the CE rotary a try, for the 2-3 times a year i will do a polish that intense, im sure it will be fine for now. i am actually gonna try my hand at some wetsanding in a few areas, which was the main reason for the rotary purchase. ive got a fleet of propel pads sitting here waiting to go to work, but i need to get some more rotary friendly polishes, im thinking menzerna or optimum. i would LOVE some powergloss and FP II

I've got their Ultra Buffing kit, it kicks serious ass. It comes with thir Ulrta Cutting Creme, 1500 Polish, Swirl Remover, Hand Glaze, Sprayh N Shine, a cheap MF, and a set of pads. Their cutting creme looks/feels like liquid sand paper when you apply it, but it works realy good. It actually doesn't leave a lot of hazing and it works great with a PC too. Their 1500 polish really hides whats left of the scratches, and the swirl remover really adds gloss, especially on dark colors. The cuttind pad and polishing pad are wool, they work great and don't catch like the foam pads. The swirl remover pad is a foam finishing pad.
You can reactivate any of the polishes with water, so you can spray it while you're buffing or when you're removing it.It makes it a whole hell of a lot easier
They work great with the rotary and perform almost as well with the PC and the right pad. I'm not saying Menzerna or Optimum are bad (because they are realy good), but for beginners like us it's extremely easy to work with, and priced good too

Re: How long does it take you to do the deed?
Took me 3hrs today to wash it twice, wax, clean wheels & tires then put some tire shine on... Looks sick... Just need to get something to polish my wheels cause dog piss and other stuff has them sorta staind, anything I can pickup locally? Autozone, pep queers, discount, napa? I got incredible billet polish, but need something I can hookup to a drill...

Re: How long does it take you to do the deed?
Takes me right around 4 hours on one of my cars. 5 - 6 hours if it's someone else's car. I will agree with one of the above comments that a power washer and a buffer make the job soo much easier.

Re: How long does it take you to do the deed?
I see someone voted on this thread.
Since I am here, atleast 8 hours to detail. Depending on how muddy, it may take 12+.

Re: How long does it take you to do the deed?
Eeesh. Didn't realize how old the thread was. I just washed the truck, did the wheels and tires, and detailed and vacuumed the interior on Sunday. It took me about 5 hours total. No way I could clay and wax too in less than 8 or 9. Machine polish and its probably more like 12+

Re: How long does it take you to do the deed?
The last time I did mine it took me right at 10 hours for the outside. The day before that I did the interior in 2.5-3 hours.

Re: How long does it take you to do the deed?
First off......nice
Second....about 5 minutes and then i have her make me a sandwich!
But really....i only clean the inside anymore. The outside is all scratched to hell anyways. The only time the outside gets any attention is after a day of wheeling, and that is just to get the mud off.
The inside will normally take me 2 hours or so.

Re: How long does it take you to do the deed?
I did a Lexus LX450 this week for a guy my dad works with. I spent 8 hours on the exterior, and 6 on the interior. It was in pretty bad shape.

Re: How long does it take you to do the deed?
You don't wanna know....I'm extremely anal about my vehicles.
Just to give you an idea, I spent 2 hours wet sanding & polishing my plastic center caps today.

Re: How long does it take you to do the deed?
Mine depends on alot. Just full on regular clean/wax of either truck takes 4-5 hours.
Cleaning the 88 after wheelin can take 4-5 hours just for a regular wash (since i clean under the truck too)
My big spring cleaning of the 88 after the de-icer is gone usually takes me a day +. I give it a full wash, shampoo carpets/seats, detail underhood, re-paint the frame, axles and wheelwells, etc. Its a lengthy process but honestly it's one of the things that makes my truck rust free and easy to work on underneath. (trust me, the underside is almost as clean as the rest, and i like it that way).
