What's the big deal with Meguiars?
It's been awhile since I've waxed my truck so I decided to detail it today...washed it really good, polished all of the chrome, coated all of the black plastic, then waited for it to get cool a little cool and darker outside so I could wax it. I tried some Meguiars Gold Class clear coat wax and it didn't turn out good at all. Maybe I applied it wrong? It said to apply it to the whole car and let dry before polishing but I did it in sections, waiting only 2-3 minutes to dry. That's how I've always heard to do it.
Anyway after I polished it off and you could see that it was uneven in spots and just didn't look good, especially the hood. Would another coat help? I've know ppl that swear by this stuff but it just didn't seem to work very well. I did notice however that when I let it dry longer it seemed to shine alot more in those spots, maybe thats it? Any comments appreciated, *cough*02Silverado*cough* |

i agree with 97, i have nice results with Meguiars. i live in Kansas where the humididty get REAL high. try letting it dry longer. then if you have access to an electric buffer, go over it with that.

Actually I haven't used Meguires a long time. I dont use their products any more because I buy in bulk now. But I would say that you need to leave it on longer that 2-3 minutes...especially since it says to do the whole vehicle before you take it off. Also, if that doesnt work than give them a call. Their number is always in the directions for help. Good luck and let us know what happens. |

Yeah like everybody else, I gotta say it has to do with the humidity. I know if i wax in the early evening (sun going down, dew starting to settle), i get less than optimal results. I'm kinda lucky in that my entire house is surrounded by shade so I wax in the middle of the day.

maybe the paint was too hot and the wax cured into the paint. When this happens, a Damp Cotton towel will usually smooth it all out. You'll be fine

Just strat in one spot and do the whole truck, wait a few minutes, then buff it all out starting from whre you first applied and going around the truck. I use the Gold Class sometimes and I like it a lot.

I looked it over today (even after it had rained for about an hour) and it's glossier and shinier than it's ever looked. There weren't even any visible waterspots.
Don't know what I was last night. ![]() |
