Re: Clay Bar?
Like was stated earlier, the Dawn will help remove the old wax... You really need to re-wax after washing with this, but it will give great results.

Re: Clay Bar?
so is this the proper process...
1. wash w/ dawn
2. claybar w/ lube
3. polish with haze or scratch remover
4. wax
also, can you use claybar on wheels?

Re: Clay Bar?
Personally, I like to wash to rinse off major dirt, then go back and use fresh soap as my lube.

Washing w/ dawn is not required. The initial wash can be w/ standard auto shampoo if you'd like. Otherwise, yes, order is correct.
You can definitely use clay on the wheels. You can also use it on glass as well :) As always, try to use a clean piece of clay if possible.

Re: Clay Bar?
oh make sure when you're claying... you are NOT putting any pressure on the clay. if you do, you will end up scratching the clearcoat to say the least

will a standard shampoo take the previous wax off though? I used mothers fx wax which is more of a quick detailer but dont know if it will be removed with a simple wash or will it require more muscle??

Re: Clay Bar?
if you clay the truck, that pretty well strips everything off. that should take care of any residual wax. so be sure you re-wax after you clay it, because its not protected after you do that.

Re: Clay Bar?
Here are before and after pics of our '97 Cutlass with 197k miles on it. Mind you, I do this at least once a year, so this is merely contaminants that have built up since last spring. I think the pics speak for themselves.
Passenger Rear Door
The rust seen here has "bled" through from the inside door seam. Before:

Here it is, all finished, with fresh wax. You can probably guess the year, but can you guess how many miles are on it?

It's very easy to do...I have a write up and couple of video demos on my website showing how to clay:

Re: Clay Bar?
I had the local stealership bodyshop guy tell me that you can even use (foam spray) glass cleaner as a lubricant and it works really well he actually used it on a small sectrion of my truck and it worked amazing.

Re: Clay Bar?
Heres a question....
I have clayed my truck I know it works well, I also picked up polishing compound for heavy scratches and to buff out some things. if I use the polishing compound then the bar will that work? or is it one or the other?

You would want to use the clay first, then any compounds/polishes 2nd. If the truck doesnt need claying, you can do the polish first, then just clay again next time its required.
