how to clean hard water spots off windows?

How can I clean hard water spots off my windows? Windex won't take it off, and the spots show up on my tinted windows pretty bad.

try vinegar or go to a place where they sell detailing supplies.i use either alcohol or vinegar.

i have it and after about two coats it clears the minerals up. But they do eventually come back.

0000 steel wool

x2 on the 0000 steel wool. Will clean pretty much everything off that window, and not hurt it.

when i titnted mine I used 1/4 teaspoon of baby shampoo to a quart of water and it seemes to take all the water spots off.

I just bought some 0000 steel wool and I did a little scrubbing. It is working good for the most part, but I am afraid to push to hard. Is there any danger of scratching the window? If this doesn't work I will try some sort of remover solution.

I've never scratched my windows using it and I've used a lot of pressure.

There is a thread on this topic in the tech articles 2 section called how to remove water spots from windows or something along those lines. You just rub rust stain remover on the window with a rag and it will take them right off. I manage the detail department at the local Chevy dealership and this is by far the best way to remove the spots.

I got mine at wal-mart, it is a small rag type deal made of steel peices. I got the spots of today using hydrocloric or hydrofloric acid. Not which type it was, a friend of mine is a detailer and got them off for me.

Remember this when buying steel wool. The more Zeros there are after the # indicates the finer the steel

i didnt mean to hijack this thread, but i got water spots on my glass too. do you just rub the glass with the steel wool dry, or do you use water or anything?

When I was trying to clean my windows myself, I was using some type of cleaner as a lubricant. For example I used CLR on my steel wool. I used only steel wool in a small spot when first starting out and the only thing that happened was the steel wool slowly came apart. It didn't hurt the glass, but it made the process easier to use a little lubricant.

i just use windex as a lubricant with the steel wool. it works great and cleans as well. then ill spray some rain x on.

where in walmart are you buying it at?

You will probably most likely find it in the hardware/paint section where all the sandpaper is or it could be where the cleaning supply area is where they sell the sponges. It's been a while since I've bought some but try those two areas.
