Shining up my Aluminum Rims
I have been running a set of Aluminum Eagle rims for about 8 years. They have been dull for at least 5-6 yrs. I've tried the Mothers Power Ball. I've used Mothers Aluminum Polish. Right now I'm not sure what to do. As I am getting a new set of tires in the next few weeks I would like to do whatever I can to remedy this problem before I mount the new skins so as not to screw them up in anyway. You guys have always come through before so I'm counting on you again. No Pressure right? LOL Thanks,

Re: Shining up my Aluminum Rims
i would say to try this:
http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-68-ad...al-polish.aspx
its really easy to use and works WONDERS on any type of metal you can think of. doesnt take much rubbing for it to work and is easy to work with. Also, this polish does not use the harmful chemicals that are in some of the other metal polishes from Mothers and McGuires and such. Alot of the other polishes are actually really bad for your rims because they use an Ammonia-like, Acid-based substance to clean the surface!
and as always 110% guaranteed on any Adam's products. they have the best customer service i have ever seen. they will NOT disappoint you what-so-ever.

Re: Shining up my Aluminum Rims
Get some 2000 grit sand paper and a bucket of water with some soap in it and go to town .Get out the powerball and the polish and about 10 or 15 mins a wheel and they will look better than when you bought them.

Re: Shining up my Aluminum Rims
I was thinking that I may have to polish them out, but if I go as far as that (Using 2000 Grit) wouldn't I have to seal them? And if I do what would be the best to seal them with?
Thanks for everyone's help!

Re: Shining up my Aluminum Rims
Yeah you can use the paper but if you can find the 2000 grit jewelers cloth it will last longer.I dont seal mine if you keep them clean after wards and maybe put mothers on once a month they arent near as hard to keep clean.

I was curious to see if it worked so I bit the bullet and spent the money on it. Its salty compared to other polishes. I used mothers powerball with the polish and I from now on I will only buy this polish. It worked great. I couldnt believe how well it took of the tarnish and made my rims shine.

Re: Shining up my Aluminum Rims
Hi Guys! I saw this Post when I was looking whats up with our Metal polish. I work for Magic Mix, (Valco Cincinnati Consumer Products Inc.) I too Own a Full Size Chevy, 1995 regular cab, 350-5speed, 4" lift with Eagle wheels and 33X12.50 M/T's,
Last night I put on a new Xlerator Muffler and dual exhaust with big tips, I used the Magic Mix we make to clean up the slight rust on the chrome tips, (I recycled them from another vehicle) But I thought this was pretty interesting to see a thread about using our polish on the Eagle wheels.
The Magic Mix does work wonders on both the Eagle Wheels and the WELD Wheels...I have first hand experience also with both.
If your wheels are pretty neglected the best thing to do is start with MM Aluminum Brightener. It comes in a two liter jug un-diluted and then you add water. Spray the wheels and agitate with a nylon scrubby or a rag. Rinse with water. Repeat a couple times depending on the condition of the wheels. This alone will take a set of Eagles that have turned Dark grey into a set of wheels that catch light and look more like a new unpolished aluminum look.
Then if the wheels are pitted, I use 400 grit wet or dry sandpaper with warm soapy water to sand in one direction the pits out. Once the wheels look pretty uniform then I move onto the finer grits, Usually 800-1000 grit and I stop at 2000-3000 grit for a show shine. I have stopped at 1500 grit then used our polish with a buffer wheel and had great results. But if you want the chrome look proceed to 2000-3000 and then buff it out using the Magic Mix and then wipe it down by hand using a super soft cloth.
Of course you can just make a regular habit out of using the Magic Mix polish and the wheels will never turn rough in the first place. I have seen truck drivers bring back their wheels with polishing by hand alone. It just takes longer and paitience during when the wheels just appear OK. Remember they dont turn ugly overnight and it can take a little while to bring them back too. Especially with minimal input.
The Magic Mix is about the most easy to use polish out there. Just shake the bottle very well, apply to the surface, work it in till it turns black, let it dry, then it comes off as easy or easier than most car paint waxes.
For buffing use, shake well, apply heavier than normal, work it in for a second or two so coverage is uniform. Let it partially dry- Then using a buffing wheel, Powerball, Etc. Buff the surface to a high luster, Let it sit for a minute or two and finally wipe with a clean soft cloth.
You can also "Wash off the metal polish" after its been rubbed in. Many times the wheels will shine even brighter with being washed just once afterwards.

I have a set of ultra wheels that are just plain old gray anymore. Is there anyone around Knoxville Tennessee that can chrome these for me?gp

Re: Shining up my Aluminum Rims
You wont have to "Chase" after Magic Mix Polish either. Rub it in, let it dry. Once its dry it comes off entirely leaving behind a bright shine.
Most polishes that contain either ammonia or that your not supposed to let dry on the surface will leave a haze. Some of the polishes actually act greasy, you will seemingly have to rub forever to get it all off. The polishes that contain Ammonia will shine momentarily then the Ammonia will actually cause the aluminum to haze and start to corrode again quickly.
Be wary of polishes that smell like it or have a perfume smell to cover it up.
Magic mix smells like solvent, That particular ingredient goes along way to clean the surface and remove tar, diesel fuel, brake dust, and lubricates the rouge as it does its job. Once it dries "Flashes" Off then it leaves behind the sealer which allows easy removal.

Re: Shining up my Aluminum Rims
I use Mother's Aluminum polish and my trusty Flitz powerball. Always leaves my rims looking like brand new. Also I use NeverDull if/when I can find it, then the ball. That stuff will polish anything... Learned about it as a new recruit in the Navy shining the ship's bell :)

Re: Shining up my Aluminum Rims
my wheels are hopelessly dull too. the thing is, youv gota cut the clear coat, youl never get it to shine out till you cut it down to raw aluminum and polish it out like mentioned above.
i sprayed some zep something or another on my wheels long ago and pressure washed them, they looked like brand new but raw aluminum, no shine. i never got around to polishing them out and they look like **** now. i was thinking about just painting them black. maybe when its not 100 degrees outside ill polish them, id like to try out that magic mix, will it do chrome too? if i could polish up my bumpers and exhaust tips with it too that would be great.

Re: Shining up my Aluminum Rims
Yeah Magic Mix will work super on chrome too. Too the guys who like never-dull and Mothers, You really need to try Magic Mix....Because your working waaaaaay toooooo HARD!!!
You can use your trusty Flitz Ball or your Powerball with the Magic Mix just fine. There is several guys polishing stuff this week to take to SEMA with them. Many contacted me and are using Magic Mix to do it.
California has it pretty easy....Thats why Never dull and Mothers can actually work for the guy from San Diego....But out East, With the cold, rain, humidity, corrosive road salts, and mud....Those brands just dont cut it.
Try the Magic Mix, You'll be quite impressed. It will bring back even badly pitted rims and stuff that has turned positively grungy. And it will pull rust off chrome and any hazing and copper bleed also. (Even Plastic chrome)
