Good for you! Rotary > DA! I have a makita 9227c and wouldn't consider anything else. If you are concerned with messing up delicate paint learn on some waffle pads and you're set!

Re: Best Buffer?

another one with the porter cable random orbital polisher...works awesome with Meguiars #26 yellow. I got mine at Lowes several years ago. Had to buy the adapter to fit the 6inch pads though

Re: Best Buffer?

I just invested in the Porter Cable 7424xp and got a chance to try it out on a 15 year old volvo with black paint that was in rough shape. After getting some good practice in on that vehicle I am very happy with my choice to go with that Porter Cable. I let that DA go at full speed with full pressure and some very slow movements with some Eagle1 Nano polish/wax and all it did was clean up the paint imperfections even more.

Now I can't wait to use the more pro-grade polishes and sealants I have on my own rides.

For someone who has always just done things by hand and was for too long afraid step up to a more serious DA buffer, I would have to say that the 7424xp will be a good fit.

Re: Best Buffer?

I have a Dewalt rotary polisher AND a Griot's Garage DA-style polisher. If you have actual scratches to polish out, the rotary buffer works the best. It's obviously more "dangerous" to use, because it does the most physical work of the two.

That's all I used for years, but then a friend got me onto Griot's products and I've never looked back. Their polisher and products work awesome, but if you have deep scratches, it doesn't work so well. Polishes better than anything else I've used, and I've used a lot.

Seems a lot of people use Poorboy's, so I may have to check that out also.

Re: Best Buffer?

I know Poorboys is awfully popular on this site and I's sure one can't go wrong with that stuff but that stuff isn't nearly as highly recommended on a lot of the professional detailing websites and how-to's. So far I have been using Chemical guys pro-polish and their wet-mirror finish glaze that came with my kit. However, I think when it comes time to replace my compounds I will either be going with Meguires 205 and 105 or some sort of Menzerna polish as I hear nothing but great things about those compounds.
