Mud + Paint =?

I am currently in the process of repainting my truck. When it gets done I was wondering about going mudding. I dont go offroading much at all but I am very worried of scratching my paint if I do. Any suggestions on cleaning the mud off or if you would even mud with the truck at all? Thanks

Re: Mud + Paint =?

The best thing I can think of in this situation, would be applying a clear vinyl protection kit, then additional pieces where protection may be needed. The rest is up to a good wax. This should aid in shedding mud and water from the surface. The main thing to do is remove as much of the mud from the surface with your pressure washer, then lots and lots of soapy suds with a microfiber wash mitt. Continuously rinse your mitt insuring that there are no small particles attached that could be abrasive to the paint while you are soaping. In more extreme situations, it will be necessary to wax more often.

Re: Mud + Paint =?

When I actually cared what my truck looked like, I would pressure wash it really good before I started scrubbing anything. Get everything pretty much off with the pressure washer. Then wash it. But if you go offroad, it's gonna get scratched. Doesn't matter if the most wheeling you do is a wide open muddy field, it's still gonna get scratched.

I didn't put 7 but I did 5 coats. It's got it's fair share of scratches now since I repainted it back in early April, and probably due for another scuff and buff.

As for mud I did wax the truck a couple of times after I painted it it (probably around mid May) and it really helped shed the mud off when I hit it with the powerwasher. There really isn't any scratches from the mud, just tree limb scratches and a few on the bedsides from me climbing over them to load/unload my quad.

Re: Mud + Paint =?

Wash it before and after each time it goes into mud. Also wax before it goes into the mud. If you drive into red clay, it will stain. Use Meguairs scratch X or color x.

Re: Mud + Paint =?

A team at Truck and Jeep Fest told me that too. But they said to let it sit in the shade for atleast a half hour first. Then spray the PAM.

A friend of mine has an uncle that races sprint cars and he sprays his car down with baby oil before he races and the mud just slides right off.

Re: Mud + Paint =?

We always spray the mud trucks down with baby oil when we first get to the mud drags and by the end of the day, pretty much most of the mud on the body just flakes off.

Re: Mud + Paint =?

when cleaning dried mud off i like to "presoak" it before hitting it with the pressure washer. soften the mud up.

Re: Mud + Paint =?

when i raced in the CORE series alot of drivers used various oil based products to slow down mud caking. the less weight you add, the faster you remain. problem being is guys used stuff that would burn in the wrong conditions....so it got frowned upon.

for the record, i used WD40.
