D max no start after washing code P0340
picked up a 04.5 LLY and washed the engine. Once done it started up but threw a code P0340 and P0341. Ok probably got the cam sensor wet. I cut the truck off to blow out the sensor, now it won't start. The funny thing is it will start if I prime up the fuel filter. It runs and drives ok althought the check engine light is on. I ordered a new cam sensor but was wondering why I had to prime the fuel system and why would it run after that???? Any suggestions???????

Re: D max no start after washing code P0340
Both codes are for camshaft sensor A bank 1
Either you got it wet internally or something. A new one is gonna cost about 80 bucks. It should have 3 wires, a 3 wire plug. Unplug it and plug it back in a couple times. If there is any corrosion it should clean it off. Then see if it starts. Otherwise if that sensor Can get wet inside. It's not sealed good and is no longer a good sensor. Could cause trouble even on a heavy rain pour.

Re: D max no start after washing code P0340
Thanks Justy for the response. Actually today it started right up and had no codes present. Tonight though it wouldn't start and gave me the same code as before. Tried to clean the connector but it still starts sometimes and sometimes not. A new CMP sensor will be here Wednesday.

I still have some air in my fuel filter. I will investigate the cause after I install the new CMP sensor.

Re: D max no start after washing code P0340
check the fuel filter housing for cracks, its been known to happen and cause air to be able to get into the system.

Re: D max no start after washing code P0340
Update...........

New AC fuel filter and bleed the filter until I got straight fuel. Checked it a little while ago and the was more air @ the bleeder. There is still some air in there and I am going to start tracing the cause. Buying a new bleeder tomorrow.

Got a new CAM sensor, cleared the code and it stated right up. After running less than a minute the code came back. Hooked up the Tech 2 and found same thing >P0340.

Called GM tech line and they faxed me a whole list of causes. Turns out the connector for the Cam Sensor has had some problens with the pins not making good connections. Removed the connector, adjusted the pins and BINGO, no more code and no more problems, started right up. Just a little tidbit that many may not know. Always check the connector pins. BTW, the old cam sensor was bad.

Thanks,
Rob
