Re: I want my truck to do this!!
true. im sorry to confuse. you are correct with the spooling. i have not seen a diesel smoke unless the turbo has been spooled. im not clear with my rpm range. from above idle when the turbo is boosted, there can be soot.

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
Gotta love a diesel. I know its ford, but it is still a BAD diesel!

PS- Diesels don't smoke unless they are over fueled. The over-fueling is for cooling of the pistons and valves. Without over-fueling they would have a very short life under the tremendous heat of that much boost being forced into it. With proper intercooling it would not be a problem (tough to do in the space confines of a road vehicle).

More fuel adds heat not cooling.

Im going to have to take a stock duramax out for comparison...
Suposable it has a shift kit and torque converter, It used to be a hotshot truck so if the tranny wasnt upgraded it probably wouldnt have lasted this long.
At any rate im going get the dealer to take the tranny out and do a once over on it, cuz if that blows im out 2500buxx.
Im tired of the 35s already, and looking into 37 and 4.56s.

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
That vid is from over a year ago now, that kid used to be my roommate here at OSU. If you guys want to see their new pulling truck check out the videos at www.crankitupdiesel.com. The Climax Duramax now has almost everything that was on that truck. I my self really like the video from Xenia where he runs off the end of the track.

Damn, does that thing run on coal? I have never seen a diesel smoke that much. The sheer blackness of the smoke is amazing.

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
That truck is awesome. Have you guys seen the comments posted about that thing?...all these lil short d!ck ricer boys are saying that diesels do nothing but pollute the enviroment...they couldn't be more wrong...and their calling it "a redneck truck"...I guess based solely on the fact that it's a monsterous pickup that can lay the smack down to most imports. What retards, guys who post BS like that just make me mad...they don't know what their talking about...and they make themselves look like a$$es...then when someone shows them proof and makes them look stupid...they still say what they said in the first place...that truck is bada$$...enough said.

NO it doesn't. Think of trying to start a fire. When you put on too much wood it just kinda smolders then gets going. OVERICH fuel mixtures do the same thing. Overich mixtures will cool the combustion chamber and EGTs. I hook up EGT sensors on engines that I am tuning for this very reason. I don't care if the engine is gas, diesel, propane, E85, or whatever, when you richen the mixture past what is necessary, it provides a cooling effect.

My Pyro tells me differently.
why do my EGT's go sky high when I am dumping the smoke out the pipe? Set my Predator on 40, pull a hill by my house at about 1150, on 65, gets close to 1300, on 85 goes over 1350 1/2 way up, have to let out of it a liitle bit.

You're forgetting the fact that the fire's already started. More fuel will make it burn hotter, it isn't like a gas motor where you can run rich to cool the intake stream.

You are missing the point, I know the fire is already burning, but the extra fuel will still slow down the fire! I don't care what engine or fuel it is, if you don't have the oxygen necessary to combust the fuel, it is EXCESS FUEL and therefore cools the combustion chamber. EGT vs. Fuel Ratio is an Upsided down U shape. Too much or Too little will lower EGTs, as you hit stoichiometric (14.3:1 for diesel) EGTs will rise.
I can gurantee that you will make more power slightly richer than stoichiometric on a diesel, but the tradeoff is you will be changing pistons and valves soon. Peak EGT is actually very close to where your engine is running best. I typically go to peak EGT, then go richer to drop the EGTs down to a safer level.
