Re: I want my truck to do this!!
you know black smoke isnt good, right? its wasted fuel. its not getting the most out of all fuel that is being dumped in there.

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
no, really.
dont know much about diesels then huh?
it clears up which is good but that is way too much black smoke(even on hard acceleration), a little bit means shes runnin good.

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
at 63+ lbs of boost i think its getting enough air maybe the fuel is just way to rich if that what the black smoke means

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
he may have high boost, but it might be through too small of pipes. the hard part is finding a turbo with a big enough inlet/outlet for the incoming air. i'm guessing he's running a turbo with a 3.5" opening, but if he went to one with a 4" opening and kept running the same boost, his power would definetly increase and the black smoke would decrese.

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
how exactly would you get a truck to dump that much fuel???? bigger injectors or what??? I got a f-250 to do all my hauling with and it doesnt smoke anywhere near that much.......

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
Just because Banks says smoke is bad don't make it true got to have lots of fuel to light a big turbo.

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
the black smoke is called soot. its raw fuel. the more black soot. the less air that is going into a cylinder and more fuel.
ever start a fire? see that black smoke that rises off the flame? that is exaclty how the soot escapes from the diesels. the combustion inside the cylinder is so full of fuel compaired to the amount of air, that is pushes the unused fuel out with the combusted fuel.
ever see a diesel first start?..little bit of soot come out. its from the injectors spitting out more fuel into the cylinder then when running, to help start the combustion faster.
when soot escapes from the exhaust, its usually when the engine is under stress/power. when more fuel is needed to haul the wieght.
with tractor pulling diesels. those are pure performance. they never show a sign of environmental health concern haha.
these are just ideas to how it works..
factory diesel..
going into a cylinder:
air-50%
fuel-50%
pushed out the cylinder:
almost clear gases escaping from clean combustion.
chiped diesel..
going into a cylinder:
air-30%
fuel-70%
pushed out the cylinder:
at lower rpms, (where diesels make the most torque) soot pours out. sometimes escaping at 2500 rpms or higher when being pushed
going into a cylinder..
larger turbos, chip, injectors..etc.
air-20%..sometimes less
fuel-80%..sometimes more
pushed out the cylinder:
at any range of rpms, usually a sign of soot. always a large cloud dispensed at lower rpms.
sorry that was such a long post

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
was i going against anything you were saying?
i also had this in my post.
the combustion inside the cylinder is so full of fuel compaired to the amount of air, that is pushes the unused fuel out with the combusted fuel.
and when i say at any rpm range. that was with the huge ass tractor pulling trucks. ( twin turbos, propane, nos, huge cc injectors, programmers )

Re: I want my truck to do this!!
I won't waste my time go to any diesel performance site and see how many trucks over fuel unless they are running massive boost or n2o. And any diesel that doesn't smoke before the turbo is spooled up most of the time doesn't have enough fuel to make full power.
