Hey guys I was wondering were the 6.5TD's the same bellhousing bolt patterns and motor mounts as the 350 in 96. I was thinking of doing a swap into my RCSB for some gas mileage and to be different.

The bellhousing is the same, but I'm not sure on the motermounts.

I thought it was a pretty sweet idea espically if you got some Marine injectors and performance stuff like that.

i'm guessing yall are talkin about the manual and the 4l80e trannies, but would the 6.5 bolt up to the 4l60e? and what upgrades would need to be done to make it survive light duty?

The 6.5 will bolt up to ALL the GM trannys. The problem with the 4L60 and 4L80 is controlling them. The early 6.5's had a stand alone trans. controller. Later years don't. You can buy a stand alone from a company like JET, or you could buy a book by a guy named Bobbie Martin that explains how to adapt an old GM standalone unit to your truck.The easiest way to do this swap is with a manual Injection Pump off an early 6.5, or even a 6.2. and a manual trans. If going with a manual IP, look for a 4911. These will offer the most performance unless you want to go to a Peninsular marine pump.To be honest though, if I was going to swap a diesel into a gas truck, I'd do a Cummins swap! I love GM diesels, but the Cummins is just SO much better! You could just swap the entire Dodge drivetrain and adapt the speedo somehow... HTH, Bill

i know the cummins would be best, but its so cheap and easy to find 6.2's and 6.5's that are running fine, wheras the cummins is harder to locate usually and costs more to swap in, usually.

what model years have stand alone tranny computers? my suburban is a 94 with a 350 tbi, is it a stand alone or was it only 93's?

Only the Diesels with mechanical injection and 4L80's came with the stand alone computer. The trucks went with a full computer around '92, but full size vans with the 6.5 had them a little longer IIRC.
Oh, FYI, some 1/2 ton trucks came with the 6.5 and a 4L60! Bill

The 6.5's that came with a 60E were non-turbo.....
95 1500 4x4, 6.5 TD, PMD cooler, #9 resistor, Heath Turbomaster, GL4 chip, ISSPRO pyro and boost gauge, custom intake, ATA IC, Heath HO injectors, 3/8" IP supply line, 4" exhaust, -1.94 TDCO, ARP head studs, Heath HO lift pump, HO waterpump, Rancho RS5000 shocks
