That may be true of the LB7's, but there you can get that truck moving without really exceeding that - some of the boost increasers on those caused problems because they were mechanical components that bled off some pressure to fool the wastegate. The VVT's controller is electronic & just modifies control over the vanes - like anything else if you run it at the limit all the time, it won't hold up. If you use the extra boost capability sparingly it should be okay

No it won't, there is one guy who has killed a 05&06 turbo at only 35PSI.

One guy is now representative of all Duramax owners?

To reiterate, any given component's longevity is relative to the conditions it is subjected to on a regular basis as well as to the driver creating those conditions, regardless of whether it's stock or modified.

Re: how much boost
No your right one guy means nothing. So prove your point, show me one Dmax that consistently runs 35psi or over that has lasted for at least 1 year. One thing you’re forgetting about or in all actuality probably know nothing about is turbo efficiency. The stocker is out of its efficiency range over 30-32PSI and the motor will actually make less power when running above that range. And show me this boost controller that ups it to 40PSI, because the only tuner that modifies boost IIRC is the Predator V2.02 and ATS doesn’t sell it.

Re: how much boost
Well I owned myself, I found a truck that did run daily and many 1/4 mile passes at over 35PSI until the owner wised up and cut the boost back, but 30-32PSI is still optimum. I still stand by the fact that if you run your stocker over 32PSI your asking for it.

for me!

I kid - in all honesty if you look through all my posts I wasn't disputing that it isn't his best bet to increase performance, I was just answering Kast's question at face value without getting into it any deeper - he wanted to know if it was possible to turn up the stock turbo's output, and all I was doing was showing him something that would & telling him what boost it'd allow. Outside of that we're pretty much in agreement on the fact that the harder you push it the shorter its life is going to be.

In reality if he's looking for better performance, he should start with the basics: electronics, intake, exhaust, and strengthening the transmission. If he wants to go beyond that & really crank up fueling, a good aftermarket performance turbo's a safer bet that'll give better performance when matched to his truck's output than turning up the stocker in any case.

Glad we're able to get things back to a civil level!

I have no idea, but I also heard he tried to see how high his tranny would bounce out of the back of a Tahoe.

Re: how much boost
I got the edge juice chip on my 03 and my boost never goes over 21....most of the time it reads 19 on WOT....]

Ive also noticed that if you really stomp on the gas it wont let the tranny shift......about 1/2 to 3/4 way to floor is quickest 0-60 time for me....

Or is this my tired tranny at 100k miles??

What do you do to get over 21 psi??

different turbos, an 03 has a wastegated turbo, that would limit the amount of boost, an 04.5 and newer has a VVT turbo, that doesn't have a wastegate, the boost is electronically controlled, and can be electronically manipulated.
2004.5 Chevy CCSB D/A LLY

Tuff Country Suspension, Toyo MT's, Exhaust, EFI Live, Danville 64mm VVT, Kennedy Pumps, SunCoast IV, some Mike L. tranny stuff, some color matching, lots of other junk.

If it won't shift under heavy throttle you’re slipping the tranny. And the edge gets it reading for the stock sensor and it's not very trust worthy.
