Re: how much boost
30-32psi tops, how much power do your want? And why drag race, truck pulls, towing? Your first mod needs to be your tranny.

Re: how much boost
dont go too big on the stock motor. head gaskets go.

as for tranny, go with a BD torque convertor. valve body. then for more power, possibly look into the BD intimidator. try mbrp 4" exhaust too

Re: how much boost
I've read a lot where the stock LB7 will hold up to 500hp on the turbo, injectors, etc before it can't go no more. So, I'd imagine the LBZ would do the same. But like they said, the tranny will need modifications to withstand the power increase.

Re: how much boost
If you really want some power and are willing to add drugs or mod the block get the best tranny out there Suncoast stage 5 or the ATS stage extreme 4. It you just want a pretty fast ~500RWHP truck Suncoast stage 3 or comparable. Stock is 22-23psi. Exhaust is a must and stock intake should be replaced if you want to go higher than 500RWHP. Gauges are a must. With drugs (n2o, propane) stock motor has hit 800RWHP. But daily driven fuel only 500RWHP is about it before things start to go, but the LBZ should hold more yet. I suggest if you really want to get into Dmax performance join dieselplace.com and do some reading and searching.

Do not worry about head gaskets!!! Chevy had a problem when the duramax FIRST came out, that has been fixed for YEARS already. Listen to dozerboy he speaks the truth.

Re: how much boost
Stay away from BD for tranny mods unless you are going to stay under 400RWHP and head gaskets are still a problem when exceeding 60PSI without head studs.

LOL well thats a given. However, the most common tuners/chips will not push you to that limit causing that failure.

http://www.atsdiesel.com/ATSWebsite/...Electronic.asp

There's a boost controller on the very top of the product list that'll allow stock turbo to generate 40psi boost. That'd be more than adequate for a stock truck trying to get a bit more.

That being said, keep in mind turbos are not bolt-on horsepower! It has to be matched to your fueling/horsepower output for the best results, so bigger isn't always better.

Re: how much boost
You push a VVT turbo up to 40psi plan on buying a new one. I have heard of 52psi from a stocker now it’s a paper weight anything over 32psi is asking for it. And twins are no problem just need to relocate one of the batteries.

I'd bet if you ask they had to do some cutting on the body to make them work - I don't know of any bolt-on kits but I'd be curious to know who is making them if I'm wrong, so please post back with that if you find out...

kast's question was what what the stock turbo can do - that being said, I haven't heard any problems running the boost controller - be thankful we own GM's & not Fords, whose VVT's are dropping like flies, even on unmodified trucks

There is o cutting of the body you only need to relocate the battery. There are 2 companies making them they are in-house mods not bolt-ons. And like I said push a stocker over 32psi it won't live.
