high mileage D-max's????
looking to sell my wife's van now and give her the altima and i'm looking at picking up a used 4wd diesel for work. Since i'll be going to Utah and not far from Moab i was also going to look at picking up like a used jeep/blazer or somethign at some point for fun on the weekend, so figured diesel was the way i wanted to go, and i miss having one

was looking at a few now, and i know the cummins are easily able to go high mileage without to much trouble. Is the same true of the D-max or is it still somewhat to early to say....

here's jsut some examples:

02 dually w/ 150k+ miles

02 2500HD w/ 110K miles
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-...QQcmdZViewItem

02 silverado with 157k miles
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-Ch...QQcmdZViewItem
another one

I was kinda considering the dodges more just cause of a like of the CTD, and they have the SFA just another example:
98 CTD w/ 180k miles

Man, I would stay far away from that 98 just by looking at the pictures. And even though its only a 98 it looks so out of date in comparison to the 95+ GM interiors IMO.

for the most part those were just examples. Some of the local ones i'm looking at now are in the 110k -230k miles mark but have had interiors redone, etc. and look in good shape for hte most part.

right now just kinda looking, since it is all dependent on what happens with the wife's van......

Re: high mileage D-max's????
with a gm the new the better on the injector issue but getting a report on what has been done gm warrentys the injectors to 200,000 miles so that is a help and unless you doing some crazy offroading gm front end can handle it just fine

on a dodge check the trany if its a auto cause they fail go with the 6 speed its a good trany and works well with the cummis but is only on the 24v
if you go 24v cummins look for a history on the injection pump and lift pump they have have a tendency to fail around 100,000 miles and it 1300+ for just the injection pump it gets pricey and the dodges ride sucks and if you want a crew you will have to get a 03 or newer

both truck will do you good you might look at the ford 7.3 they are reliable also

you might also check out dieselplace and cumminsforum.com learn what to look for

I wouldnt worry about it if your not going to dd it.
but short trips could finish it off quick... and a new diesel engine is not cheap.
Also dont buy orange trucks... They've probably had the **** beat out of them.

....so do the 01, 03, and early 04 Duramax's.

dont worry about it tho, GM extended the warrantee to 200,000 miles so you are covered in terms of the LB7's only real problem (injectors)

GM claims to have fixed the problem w/ a different fuel filter - I guess only time will tell how effective that really is

Some 04&05s had overheating problem which will be see with a VIN check again. The only motor upgrades that may help it hold more are on the 06s and up, but this is only a concern if you plan on running over 500 RWHP daily on fuel only. I wouldn't avoid any year of Dmax you just need to know how to pick them.

There have been several Dmaxs that have hit 400K+.

Re: high mileage D-max's????
I saw one with 496k still runnning strong, and one over 500k as well. It is unfair to judge reliability of the Duramax right now. It has not been out long enough.

The LB7 injectors IMHO are a design flaw. No dual pleat fuel filter is going to fix it.

Well, that may not be entirely bad - I can't think of better justification for buying a performance set

Re: high mileage D-max's????
we;; was pit ;pplomg ear;oer amd foung an 01 GMC SLT (leather or what not loaded truck) . it's an 01, 2500HD CCSB, D-max, 4wd, 125k miles on the odometer. Just traded in for another vehicle but the financing hasn't cleared so i wasn't able to take a good look at it/ It's schedueled to go to auction so the dealer was willing to talk about making a deal. Just waiting on the financing of the previous owner to clear and then talk to em.

I looked on kbb and suggested retail is $21k and trade in is $13k on it, so i'm thinking if it is possibly a go is maybe making a deal to trade in my wife's van, which is an 02 grand caravan if you saw in the for sale section and offering like $15k for it

They've also got an 03, i believe 3500 dually that is a EC, i belive, with 54k miles on it that they are asking $22k for, but it's a 2wd, so dunno, might take a look at it for fun

so i'll keep ya updated, might be a Chevy/GMC guy again soon

Re: high mileage D-max's????
Get the crew cab, only reason for the EC one ton is the towing ratings IMO.

Re: high mileage D-max's????
Is'nt the tow ratings from a 1 ton to a 3/4 ton within 400lbs? I was pretty sure they were very closely rated.
