1500 HD D-max??
on the freeway this morning, down by tucson there was a new 07 style
CCSB chevy with the black secret cladding on it, but you could still see the badging through it. Traffic was slowing down and i had pulled up next to it and it had 1500HD cladding, but above it it had the D-max badge???? figured since it had the black cladding stuff on it that it was a test vehicle, but figured i'd see if anyone had heard anything about this combo???

Re: 1500 HD D-max??
They are working on a 6 cyl version of the D-max, could have been that? Would be nice if they would offer them for the 2007 model year. From what I have read the 1/2 ton diesel truck is at least another year away 2008.

Re: 1500 HD D-max??
They're likely heat testing the new 1/2 ton duramax. Same power as the LBZ has, I'd roll one

Looks like Ford is going to be first to offer a baby diesel in a half ton pickup. I'm sure the rest will follow. Getting a tranny to fit that combo will be difficult. I'm all for an entry level diesel though.

Re: 1500 HD D-max??
I don't thinks so you sure it wasn't V-max badge? If it was a diesel 1500 I don't think it would have any badges and my understanding id we won't see a 6cly diesel until 2010 if we are lucky.

Re: 1500 HD D-max??
hopefully it'll have a little more grunt than 400 ft/lbs, if not why not just throw a 6.5 in it, unless of course they've come up with something that breaks 20MPG consistantly, that would be sweet.

Re: 1500 HD D-max??
The problem with a baby diesel is that demand for diesel will skyrocket...and diesel production won't be able to keep up...then diesel prices will be out of sight...and so will everything else, because most everything is tied to diesel prices through trucks or trains.
A baby diesel is a great idea...and I've thought that for years...something with 300 hp and 400 lb. ft. that will get 22+ mpg. But we have to have enough diesel production for that or there will be a huge bottleneck.

Re: 1500 HD D-max??
Press release 2
GM to Introduce New Light-Duty Diesel for North America High-efficiency V-8 scheduled for pickup trucks under 8,600 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight MILFORD, Mich. - General Motors Corp. will introduce a new V-8 turbo-diesel that improves engine fuel efficiency by 25 percent for North American light duty trucks after 2009. The premium V-8 diesel is expected to deliver class-leading torque, power and refinement while maintaining a significant fuel efficiency advantage over comparable output gasoline engines. The new dual-overhead cam, four-valve V-8 diesel engine will fit within the same space as a small-block V-8 gasoline engine. This compact size is made possible by using an integrated air system and narrow block. "This new GM light duty diesel is expected to become a favorite among customers who require excellent towing ability and fuel efficiency," said Tom Stephens, group vice president, GM Powertrain. "It will meet the stringent 2010 emissions standards, and it will be compliant in all 50 states, making it one of the cleanest diesel vehicles ever produced." Environmental benefits of the new engine include a 13-percent reduction in CO2 versus gasoline engines, and at least a 90-percent reduction in particulates and NOx compared to diesel vehicles today. This will be GM's first engine to use a NOx after-treatment system with a diesel particulate filter to help achieve the Tier 2 Bin 5 and LEV 2 emissions standards. Technical highlights of the engine include aluminum cylinder heads with integrated manifolding, compacted graphite iron (CGI) block for a strong engine base and fracture-split main bearing caps and connecting rods for a precise fit. A high-pressure, common-rail fuel system is used, which has the ability to inject fuel five times per combustion event to control noise and emissions. GM (Opel, Saab, Vauxhall, GMDAT, Isuzu and Suzuki) currently offers 17 diesel engine variants in 45 vehicle lines around the world. GM sells more than one million diesel engines annually, with products that offer a range of choices from the 1.3L four-cylinder diesel engine sold in the Opel Agila and Corsa, up to the 6.6L V-8 Duramax diesel sold in full-size vans, heavy duty pickups and medium duty trucks in the U.S. GM introduced the Duramax diesel 6.6L V-8 in the U.S. in the 2001 model year and since then, customer enthusiasm for this heavy duty diesel has been outstanding. ![]() These views expressed on this post are not my own, but rather randomly generated computer gibberish and in no way should be used to judge the author's IQ or mental health. |

I think the new truck look much better than the 03-06 did. The 07(08) 1/2 ton truck will have an option for a I6 Dmax. |
