Help out the new guy
I bought a '06 2500HD Crew Cab Long Bed with the Duramax 6.6L Diesel in July. I recently took it down to Baja and was disappointed how little ground clearance i had with the stock 245 75R-16 tires. I bottomed out the rocker panel on a few dunes at slow speeds. Good thing it was only soft sand.
I have read on this site you can put 285 or even 305 or 315 tires with out a lift and without cranking the torsion bars all the way on the stock rims. How? Sorry if this has been covered before. I am just looking to get some more ground clearance for 4X4, still be able to pull my toy box to the desert on the freeway without rear sagg or axle wrap, and keep it as an every day driver with out giving up the handling and perfomance i have come to love on the stock truck. Am i asking too much? Please help a new brotha in the bowtie club Thanks JH |

Re: Help out the new guy
The stock rims are only 6.5" wide. I personally feel that 285s are the max (I actually think they are too wide) for the stock rims. If you keep the backspacing in tight, you can run 285s (some do 315s with cranking the bars and trimming the valance/wheel well liner).
I don't think you will pull it off without some sort of cranking/trimming. Just my .02. I had to do both when I had 285s
