Question about heat
Well all of my work trucks i own have been fords but the tranny cost are about to put me out of business. So at an auction i picked up a good clean 97' chevy 3500 dumptruck 4x4. Anyway i put a new western 9' plow on it and when i raise the plow, not all of the way up, but just enough to drive it still blocks to much air and over heats my truck. I had an employee last year that said he didnt notice at first so this year i had to replace the head gasket. There is a plastic cowel type piece i can buy from Western to push more air in there, but what other ways could i keep this from getting so hot?

You should be able to make your own air dam, I know some plow sites have accessories just for that problem. You might want to look up the maker of your plow and see if they have some bolt ons to correct your overheating.

No biggie, I was just going to suggest that if it was a gasser, the intake gaskets are common failures on 96-99 vortecs, but since it's a 6.5, my theory doesn't apply.

yeah it just makes me a little angry because i love my 1500 to death. And all of my ford's tranny's have gone out at or before 70k. I know snowplowing is horrible for them as well as towing a bobcat. But i bought this chevy for a good price and the tranny and head gasket went it was like just over 5 grand in repairs :/
Oh well, the new duramax's look nice tahts what im going to get next. I just rolled over all my fords in 99 and that was ford's worst year i think. |
