suggestions/help?? 6.5L build-up
couple questions ...
1). right now, im running everything stock. Right now, some times the turbo refuses to spool. i can lay into it at 1,500 rpm and hold keep the pedal down until 2 when the egt's get close to 10,500º and let off. then other times, it will spool up with no problem. i used to have a heath Diesel boost controller and i dont remember it doing this.
-do you guys think its the vac. pump? or the wastegate actuator?
-im thinking REALLY HARD about getting another controller, since im only getting 4-5psi out of the actuator. also, i dont think its the exhaust restricting it, but maybe, i have the BD 3" dp and a full 3" dp back exhaust.

2). im thinking about either building up this motor or just going out and finding a newer 5.9L. what kind of power do you think i would get out of this motor build on the 6.5L
_18:1
_studed head
_o-ring head
_bigger turbo good for up to 25psi
_large fmic
_fuel pump
_injectors
_lift pump
_custom exhaust
_custom exhaust manifolds with large cross pipe
_5" exhaust .. probably stacked
_then probably need tranny work (have 5spd right now w/ 130K miles)
maybe propane or nitrous down the road

3). is there any headgaskets out there that are built for this motor for this kind of power? maybe something thicker to get a little less compression.

-im looking for about 350hp 650-700tq .. think it would make it?
-i dont really tow anything, its just mostly a toy. and this project is going to be a "when i have extra money" project. going to keep researching and start collecting parts next spring and hopefully have everything by summer 2008

-also, suggestions on brands and models would be greatly appriciated. suggestions on maybe head work too. not sure if there is anything that needs to be done.
-and is there something that maybe i put in there that i dont need? the head gaskets? stock exhaust manifolds work fine? does the head need studded and o-ringed?
---Thanks guys and gals
what i have:
1996 2500HD w/ 6.5, 6" lift, 35" FCII's, MT Classic rims, ss brushguard, 140DB train horn ... and so much more ... (for sale)

but .....

what i want:
2005 3500HD dually w/ 10lug wheels tucked and layin frame

Re: suggestions/help?? 6.5L build-up
I see you didn't list a chip or an intercooler or a manual boost controller in your build up - must have just forgotten these all important things I assume....

With your recipe right there I would say you would be in the mid 200 range for HP.....

Have a look at the dyno figures on this site:

http://www.schoolcraftpowertrain.com...rformance1.htm

That site is owned by RonnieJoe of dieselplace.com

Look him up - he has come up with a new turbo and is thinking he will hit 300 HP with his 6.5 in the near future.....

Come on over to dieselplace.com and we can set you straight on what works and what doesn't with this engine....

As for your turbo problems - need to check codes - could be anything from an intermittent solenoid to a cracked vaccuum line to a bad vac pump.....all of these can be removed for about $5 worth of parts to make your own boost controller...

Check out peninsulardiesel, heath diesel, kennedy diesel, and ssdiesel for anything 6.5 related....
