Re: Got bit by the Diesel Bug!
ok just to clear it up, any 2007 duramax that you buy now is IDENTICAL TO THE 2006 TRUCKS!!! The "2007.5" duramax's have not even started production yet and wont be for sale until end of January. So you are safe buying a 2007 duramax...there is no extra emmissions garbage than th 2006 trucks.

I would definately stay away from 6L Ford. If you want a used work horse the 2000-2003 (not 2003.5)7.3L Ford or the newer 5.7L cummins are the best engines hands down IMO. The duramax is a nice engine and will give you the best ride but I think that will come with lots of body roll from the smoother suspension.

and to answer your questions 2wd 2500 Chevy or GMC

What ever your looking for go test drive 'em pick the one you like add a chip, exhaust, intake and gauges, sit back and enjoy every moment

::EDIT:: The pics were ginormous so I shrunk em

Re: Got bit by the Diesel Bug!
Great info again fellahs - I can't thank you guys enough. I got the first round of drinks!

I have an appointment this Saturday at Van Chevy (Phoenix) to test drive them bad boys. They have an 07 2 wheel drive with the dark guts I like with graystone exterior.

Good input on 2w/d vs 4w/d - it's good to have just in case but I highly doubt my city boy a$$ is going to be in the woods let alone in the snowy mountains any time soon. Well, not unless Halle Berry wants me to take her. ; )

So, it's safe to buy any 07's on the lot now? That being said, that makes my odds a little better on finding a 2w/d. It seems slim pickings on finding a 2w/d, crew cab.

Oh, one more question. Long bed or short bed. Is the short bed too short to carry 4 x 8 sheets of wood? Again, you input is highly appreciated.

You can haul 4x8 sheets of plywood, you'll just have to leave the tailgate down. You can put them in over the tailgate if you want, but I wouldn't overdo it. easier to leave the gate down and slide them in.

Yes - '07's on the lot today aren't any different than the '06 trucks - The low-emission rigs won't be out before January, so you're fine.

Bed length depends on how often you anticipate needing the add'l length in a L/B, and more importantly, how much space you have available to park the truck - It would really suck if you drove your new rig home to put it in the garage for the 1st time & it didn't fit cuz the bed's too long...

LBs also have a 53' turning radius so unless you need the room for work I wouldn't get one.

Re: Got bit by the Diesel Bug!
Ok, I'm seriously rethinking and considering a 4x4 with a s/b. I talked to a gal that used to sell used cars and says they can't keep them on the lot and their getting every penny worth the asking price. And yes, 4x4's are the higher resale. You guys are good!

The sales person I'm dealing with mentioned the motors after Jan 1, 07 and something about new low sulfur diesel. Then something about the only places that have them now are Texas and Cali. Gotta research that.

Kinda tough call if the D/Max gets to be in the big house. I have two Impalas that are pretty sensitive to the sun rays. If it all works out, the Tahoe would be the sacrificial lamb.

Re: Got bit by the Diesel Bug!
If you need more info just ask whatever questions you have here or go over to dieselplace.com for more than you probably want to know about the Duramax.

She was partially right - the engines built after the new year will be low-emission. The '07's are already out, and aren't any different than '06 - Trucks built after that date will be either 2007.5 or 2008.

TX & CA are the only ones that have what? The trucks haven't been built yet, so nobody has those, and if she was referring to availability of ULSD (Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel), that will be available nationwide by the middle of this month IIRC - By 2010 that will be all there is.

Yes, she was referring to TX & CA having ULSD.

So another question is: With the introduction of ULSD, will the price of diesel go up? Currently in Phoenix, gas is about $2.15(ish) and diesel being anywhere from $2.43 to $2.89.

What's your take?

Re: Got bit by the Diesel Bug!
You're welcome for the link. As far as fuel prices, its hard to say what impact it'll have w/ any certainty, especially considering how much prices can fluctuate even without any changes to the fuel...

Re: Got bit by the Diesel Bug!
I just test drove an 07 Dmax. I am in love!! Rides just like my 3/4 ton, but more "growly" obviously. And boy when you put your foot in it, it goes like snot, makes my 6.0 feel like a slug. I couldn't BELIEVE it.. felt like the truck weighed 800 pounds or something.

I kinda wondered about the "manual" shift mode... it didn't shift as crisply as I would have hoped, and there were some gears it didn't seem to want to go into... like 6th at 50mph... maybe the gear was just too flat for that speed, I don't know
