2006 2500HD Duramax Question?
I have a 2006 ExCab short bed 2500HD 4x4 with the Duramax and the 6 speed allison auto, how do you know if it is the LBZ? I am new to diesels so I am sorry if this is a stupid question.
Thanks! Last edited by nateZ71 : 12-12-2006 at 07:08 PM. |

I believe the LBZ was optional in '06.

Re: 2006 2500HD Duramax Question?
not all 2006 are LBZ motors. the way to tell is by the 8th digit of you VIN #.
LBZ motor the 8th digit is the letter - D LLY motor is the # - 2 LB7 motor is the # - 1
2004 1500, 14in bulletproof with 4in cst spindles, 38 pj's dirtgrip. k&n, thorley headers, 40 series. much more. 1993 2dr s-10 blazer lt tahoe, all stock baby!

If you got the truck new and know its stock you can also look at the badges if they are blue and red Ally/Dmax badges its a LBZ if its a red Dmax diesel badge its a LLY.

NateZ71 - you know there are 2 different engine codes for '06, so you're a step ahead of many. Ask any questions you've got - that's the only way to learn what you want to know

yes that is right lost boy. 2001-2004. hey and the 2001 does not have an egr! and the LLY and LBZ went to an electronic egr system unlike the 2002-2004 LB7 vacuum controled egr.

I think the LLY is better. Its the same motor that Gale Banks has in his D-max type-R road race truck that has some 1000hp or so. The LBZ motor is only minorly different. The computer was programmed for 50hp more and the engine block webbing was thickened up, not that it needed to be. If Banks can get a 1000hp+ out of a LLY block, then you know its strong enough for what ever you can throw at it. |

X3
IMO 06s would be that way to go but 07s have a better warranty. ![]() These views expressed on this post are not my own, but rather randomly generated computer gibberish and in no way should be used to judge the author's IQ or mental health. |

Re: 2006 2500HD Duramax Question?
If you're looking purely to turn the truck up I'd go with a non-EGR LB7. Instead of trying to base your opinion off a truck full of proprietary components with an unlimited bankroll behind it, look at the guys that build their trucks with product available to the public, that aren't afraid to tell you exactly what they've got

Re: 2006 2500HD Duramax Question?
pay close attention to the 07 the early production will have the LBZ motor, and will change 1/2 year. The 06 lbz 36k warr, and the 07 lbz will have 100k, same motor. The new motor will have an exhaust filter that will have to be regenerated when needed.
The lbz is the only GM diesel that will use low-sulfer(#2 diesel)and ultra-low sulfer fuel, at least for now. The best deal is the 07 with a LBZ |

Re: 2006 2500HD Duramax Question?
I'm confused as to what the 06 & 07 has to do with his 04 question...?
You're a little bit off - the Duramax with the particulate filter you're talking about will not be an LBZ. Every single Duramax on the road right now will run on low-sulfer and ULSD, from 01 LB7 thru 07 LBZ

Re: 2006 2500HD Duramax Question?
The new motor for 07, RPO LMM-eigth digit of the vin is a 6, will only burn ultra-low. Only the LBZ and LMM are the only two motors engineered with ultra-low fuel in consideration. I'm sure this to will pass... just like the leaded to unleaded fuels years ago.

Re: 2006 2500HD Duramax Question?
I thought you were talking about the LBZ being the low-emission mill. Any Duramax will run just fine on ULSD, no problems; the LMM will be the only one that won't run on LSD.

Lostboy, you're a diesel tech postwhore. It will be interesting to see the LMM on the dyno. We threw a new 6.4 ford on the dyno the other day and it was a good bit stronger than the last 6.0 putting it about even with LBZ (Stock). Hopefully the LMM pulls ahead a little more.
