dual exhaust for diesel?
everyone with gas runs dual..... but with diesel people usually only run single pipes... why? I've seen diesels with dual and I think is SO bad ass with the huge tips...

is there any problems or different sound issues with running dual pipes? or loss of back pressure or why is it so uncommon...?

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
No problems, "more" sound since it is coming out of both sides now, Don't know how much louder it will actually be, but it will resonate off of more things, so it will heard more. Wasn't very common until the aftermarket realized how they could capitalize on it.

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
well ya, I figured there shouldn't be any problems, and will be louder.... just like its louder on gas..... but I just never see it, and when I do and its comming out at 45*.... looks pretty sick....... if I sell my truck quick, and get that duramax, I will probably follow through with that idea!......

does anyone have sound clips of their diesel.... straight piped preferably, but anything works!

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
Well on a turbo diesel you run all of the exhaust into the turbo no point in running it out to 2 pipes other then looks IMO I like a single or stacks.

These views expressed on this post are not my own, but rather randomly generated computer gibberish and in no way should be used to judge the author's IQ or mental health.

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
oh well true that.... but how does the exhaust run.... is there a cat?.... ill look under this duramax this weekend... I just dont know how the setup is... like dual cats to single or what?

and what about instead of true dual... pointless.... run a custom Y-pipe turbo back?

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
What year was it? If it's not an LLY (04.5+), then, unless it's a federal emissions RPO coded truck, (which it most likely isn't) then, it shouldn't have a cat. Run a front pipe or turbo back, and get a muffler delete pipe. It sounds perfect.

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
For my LB7 I just ran the straight pipe and liked the idle sound, but when I got on it, it really sounded odd like raspy poppy irritating like. Does the sound change significantly once ya throw on a cold air intake and a 65hp tune? If it does I'm cutting the muffler off again and try 'er straight piped. BTW I'm still running the factory sized exhaust, if 4" is the ticket I'll do that. I want some badass sounding exhaust.

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
No sound clips... I like the way my trucks sounds, maybe the sound is different with your IHI turbo on you guys' LB7s. I have no intake, and it didn't matter what tune or if I even ran a tune, it still sounded sweet.

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
4" will sound alot deeper and silverado nolan be carefull on what exhaust you buy some companys like flow pro i think its called uses their muffler to split the pipe so make sure you go with a companie that uses a y to split it like mbrp and just to warn you plan on having a few extra hours to install the duals. Its not fun to adjust them to get them perfect from side to side. but the end resault is sweet. I would advise a mbrp system i have instaled about every brand out there and mbrp is the best for your money and great sound with or without muffler

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
personally i love the look of two fat 5 or 6" pipes coming out at 45's on the diesels, as far as i know it doesnt do anything over a good single but it just looks bada$$ blowing black smoke from both sides. so when i do an exhaust hopefully this summer its gonna be duals.

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
I like one pipe over two, I think the only way to have dual is to have stacks and I do'nt really like those that much. I have 5" magnaflow exhaust with the 6" tip, it looks sick....Sounds really good, not to loud but loud enough

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
I never owned a diesel with dual exhaust. But did have a 1998 454 gas with duals. Worst mistake. It sounded ok. But what I didn't like about it was everytime I drove on the grass or in a field or some place that flexed the body enough would screw up my dual exhaust. I had to go home and either bend a pipe or adjust the hangers or something. What a headache that was. And I didn't like my exhaust looking crocked under the rear bumper. So after that point. I said never again will I have dual exhaust. I rather and one big single pipe that fits in the factory spot and be done with it. You can get just as good sounding exhaust with one good size pipe. Air flow the same. You could even put long tube headers on and a single pipe and it will still sound good. Maybe someday on a truck I don't care about I'll try a set of stacks that come out of the bed. See if I like it or not.

Re: dual exhaust for diesel?
I dont think on the duramax it makes any difference, you are just making a Y, its not true dual pipes from the turbo, On my LB7 I just made a downturn after the cab, I just used the stock piping 3" and welded it up
