6.0 swap to a Diesel
My wife and I are considering swaping our 06 Crew 2500 4X4 out to a Duramax. We currently have a 6.0 in it with an Auto. We would really like to swap out to an LBZ Duramax with a Manual Tranny. This truck was a spur of the moment buy due to us thinking we were having to move to Anchorage Alaska going through the canadian mountains. We had a 1500 Sierra at the time with a 5.3 and just did not think it would be enough pulling our house hold goods in a 14' trailer, so we upgraded. At the time we did not have the cash for the extra 5500 for the diesel. Well, now that we have to drive the truck everyday in Detroit traffic 20 Miles to and from work each way, we average about 12-14 MPG city and Highway combined. We are really kicking ourselvs int he ass not getting the diesel.
I am hoping to get the Duramax because I like to play. I plan on doing some upgrades, but my biggest questin is, Can it easily be done, and what will need to be changed ie. wiring harness, computer? And what kind of price range will I be looking. I am hoping to keep it under 7000. any help is appreciated. |

Sell the truck and buy one with a Duramax in it. It will be cheaper, easier, and more reliable.

Re: 6.0 swap to a Diesel
anything can be done, theres that old 80's car with a duramax in it
but will it be cheap or easy ? nope! duramax's are going for like $8000 on ebay so i doubt youll manage the swap for under $7000 you'd be better trying to get what you owe on your current truck or use it for a trade in and buy a duramax. you may lose a few thousand but it will be the cheapest way and best way to get a duramax ![]() - 99 Silverado - retired to spare vehicle Black headlights/turnsignals/taillights- 6K HID Low beams, back on stock rims. current project/DD 99 jeep TJ |

Re: 6.0 swap to a Diesel
No it will not be easy, unless you have plenty of money and plenty of time to deicate to it. The other way is to pay for somebody to do it. I wanted a 6.0 in my tahoe and it was going to be around $7000. Thats with a motor that is worth $1800 so add another $6000 to that for the Duramax that is in good shape. Man $13000 is alot of money, but if you have it, it would be awesome.

Re: 6.0 swap to a Diesel
Sounds like your in a pinch with your mpg = not enough ching to do the swap because the swap is pretty pricey even if you found a complete donor truck. Trade yours in or sell it outright and purchase a one factory equipped.
