Diesel Stacks Info
Hey, In the next couple months, I'm going to be trading my 2000 Z71 ECSB 5.3 with one of Gods Finest Creations, the "Chevy 2500HD Duramax". (Problly a LB7 or LLY) And I will putting some short, 5" mitre stacks in the back. My concern is, I'm gonna be up in NY for the winter, and what happens when it Rains and Snows? Will the water buildup in the pipes and eventually rust out? Or is there a small drainage hole somewhere? I really really dont want Curved or Flapper Tips...

Re: Diesel Stacks Info
You can drill a drain hole at the bottom, or just get a set of stack hats.

Re: Diesel Stacks Info
i would go with a drain hole. of you could go with some sort of cover that you could pull off. kinda a pain but if its going to be parked for a while then it will keep all water out!
oh and i would get a LB7 not the lly. i love mine.

Re: Diesel Stacks Info
i have also wonder this same question. i was getting ready to post a new topic to find out the same info. lets say the truck would only be sitting for a day or 3 a the max. if there wasa an extreme about of rain is it possible that this could reach the engine and cause damage . i dont think this would happen just want to make sure. also when you start the engine is the stack going to blow all the water that is in the pipes all over ur truck ..

Re: Diesel Stacks Info
other then the sound that is made by the hole in the stacks, the exhaust leak will not hurt performance due to the fact its behind the muffler.
*Edit* I should have said behind the Turbo. (learns to proof read his post from this point on)

Re: Diesel Stacks Info
If you are going to put staks on it I wouldn't bother even putting mufflers on it. The Duramax really isn't that loud with no muffler, and you don't need a huge hole to drain the water. A 1/8" hole should be sufficent to let all the water out.

Re: Diesel Stacks Info
I know one old trucker has two basket balls with a 5 inch hole cut in them that he throws over his trucks stacks. It makes me laugh everytime I see it.
Drill an 1/8 inch hole in the lowest section of the pipe for water to drain and it will work just as good and won't cause any sort of exhaust leak either.

Re: Diesel Stacks Info
I guess to each their own but why would you want to run stacks in the first place? Unless you don't use the bed for anything, but still I guess I just don't see the point of it. Maybe I'm too old...
