inconvenient suburban
say I bought a suburban with the 6.2 diesel how would I make that thing chug black smoke to where Al Gore would make a movie about it? I've seen all the cummins guys shoot black smoke out of their blow holes when they get on it, how do i do this with a 6.2?

The only time you can probably get that 6.2 to smoke black is to make the engine work hard. Otherwise put some seafoam in it lol J/K

Re: inconvenient suburban
Turn the fuel way up. Most old mechanical injected engines can be done that way. There is no reason to do it though and it some cases it could make it have even less power then the next to no power its already got. Black smoke = rich condition. Black smoke = unburnt fuel.
1995 Silverado - Very torquey, fun to drive (see below)
1999 NBS Silverdo - Torque? Never heard of such a thing.

I'm gonna disagree, you wont loose power, you will however loose fuel millage, and thats one of the few reasons for owning a 6.2. 6.2's arent the best choise to hot rod |

Re: inconvenient suburban
yep, oldred is right...you have to crank the fuel way up. i know how to do it but instead of trying to explain it i will point you in the direction of an online article on turning it up...you WILL gain power...but your fuel mileage will take a nosedive...
http://flashoffroad.com/Diesel/injec...anicalpump.htm that should explain it pretty well. i don't blame ya, i like my black smoke too...i use to have a '96 F350 with the PSD (and some mods...heheh) and it use to smoke so much that it would make the cars behind me think we were having a solar eclipse... ![]() <---thanks 454SS!!1991 Chevy Silverado K1500 extended cab, 350, 700R4 with shift kit, exhaust work...in need of body work...lol... 1983 GMC Sierra K1500 sold...

Re: inconvenient suburban
Thanks for the help, i think i may just buy cummins down the road. Not that I like dodges or anything but you cant find a used duramax for under 10,000 so suck it gm.

Re: inconvenient suburban
ehh, give the D'Maxes time...when the Cummins powered Dodges were 10 years old and newer you couldn't find one of them for under $10gs that wasn't stolen either. it's just a matter of time before the D'Maxes age and get cheaper...
and the '98.5-'02 24v Cummins powered Dodges aren't bad at all. actually, the '97-'98 12V Cummins powered Dodges are pretty nice too...if you can find a '98 12V Cummins you will be set...that way you get the newer, nicer interior with the 12V Cummins that is cheaper to mod and makes more power...but they are rarer than a hen's tooth... <---thanks 454SS!!1991 Chevy Silverado K1500 extended cab, 350, 700R4 with shift kit, exhaust work...in need of body work...lol... 1983 GMC Sierra K1500 sold...

GM doesnt make up the used truck prices and the duramax has only been out since 01, thats why you dont see them real cheap yet, plus dodge always has the worst resale value. the cummins is a great motor though, just too bad it only comes in a dodge. ![]() 03 GMC 2500 HD crew duramax, 6" full traction lift. 37/13.5/20 Toyo Open Country MT's, ATS E-Power tuner, AEM intake, Stage 3 allison 452 RWHP/755 TQ verified on superflo dyno, 7/19/08 (ATS level 10) and thanks to Chuggs for the sig!

I agree with you all the way, I just want a diesel truck and no one at the dealership will finance me because I cant find anyone to co sign for me. I will have to save if I ever want to see anything under 10 years old and if I gathered enough change out of my tube sock for a dmax I will just buy a used c5 vette. ![]() Quote:
