Well this might be what threw most of us off because I was under the impression that you were wanting to swap a diesel into an existing vehicle of yours, as for it being to expensive well any repower isnt cheap especially a diesel but the cummins is by far going to be the cheapest and easiest depending on which one you go for. I've seen people repower their chevs with a cummins and the whole works for under 6 grand, just requires shopping around and searching. As for buying the whole truck thats your call, its more expensive but a lot less time and headache, I'm not one to tell you what you should do there.

Re: Chevy Cummins
Just by reading I was pretty certain you were asking what motor to swap into your chevy...when you find a running chevy with a cummins in it let me know (as your latest post and thread title insinuate).

HP rating doesnt mean anything in itself, it tells you where the power is made at....for instance if torque and hp are equal, it makes power at 5250rpm. Not a good place for a truck (since trucks are meant to last a long time). If torque is twice the horsepower then it makes the power at 5250/2 which is 2625 rpm, slightly more appropriate for a truck. Get the idea?

There you go nova, full size chev with a cummins for sale under $5K, it required 15 seconds on ebay and I picked up some results. Thats the beauty of shopping and searching around and not being discouraged because you found a dodge that was running for $10,000.

Unfortunately that's a non-intercooled version, but still a 5.9 Cummins none-the-less.

Re: Chevy Cummins
I could find a good used 12v with the inline pump, intercooler and rebuild kit for probily less than $3200, and it would be a direct drop in from what what it is now, very cost effective and simple. He has all the complicated hard stuff done already, plus you can turn around, sell the powerplant out of that and loose nearly nothing

Re: Chevy Cummins
And, that was 2 wheel drive. I can find a cummins easy for say $4k. But it is not what I want. I know I threw everybody off saying that v8's were crappy and all I just think lesser of them. I am shopping around for a Dodge truck with a Cummins, or I might just stick with my Chevy and never do anything to it.

O.K, here is the 4bt I was talking about? How much can it tow? Is it like or around a 350? Thanks......http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/car/461577476.html

Re: Chevy Cummins
6200-6500lb 96 Chev K2500

Lots of boost and fuel. Fuel level not out of reach of VE engine.

I try to keep it under 1250 when running over 2300rpm. 1100 max at 1800rpm. 25-32psi boost.

Towed 14000 one time. Little slow on the hills but easy 60-65mph on the flats. That would be a 14K trailer hooked to a 6K truck. T300 bobcat and several buckets.

Thats a quote from one of the 4BT forums, I guess if your gonna tow more than 14,000lbs then do somethin else.

Re: Chevy Cummins
Hey, great news. I found my dream truck already swapped for $1500. I think I am going to pick it up. It is an 83 k20, with a 5.9l cummins swapped in with a 5pd getrag tranny. Looks like a good deal to me. Thanks for the help. I will post if I get it or not. And I will add pics. It is like 6 hours away though

Re: Chevy Cummins
Finished my Cummins to -90 2wd burban some time ago, now started to build another cummins with lightened crank and 24v head. The current version is 12v, ddp3's, hx40/16, 3000rpm, #10 plate. and alot of home made stuff. Go check my page, there's plenty of usefull stuff if you are going to swap cummins in a Chevy.
